Don’t forget Teheran who is at a $6MM if he makes the squad … he may be more ready for the #5/#6 than some of the others.

Wouldn’t touch Archer or Cueto at this point … Stripling will be a lot more expensive than you think (would spend the extra for Senga) … just not a fan of the current version of Syndergaard but would guess he would not come cheap.

Senga or bust!

Totally forgot about Teheran, he is a good bounce back candidate.

Whats wrong with Cueto? he threw 158 innings last season, with a 3.35 ERA and WHIP of 1.22. More innings than Clev, and a better ERA than Manaea.

Worried about him being 37 coupled with the less than good (and unhealthy) 4-5 years prior. He will probably get someone to bite on a good sized contract but I am looking for a much more reliable projection. More likely even if healthy he is in the Clevinger / Manaea zone. 2022 will not repeat.

Senga

If not......Kluber on a 1 and 1 deal or a 2 yr deal

What would have happened if we had signed Abreu?

Cronenworth stays at 2b....Kim at SS...Tatis still in the OF.

Then what?

Who's the other *Big Bat?

My guess is we don't go after Turner or sign Xander if we had signed Abreu.

So just pitching and DH?

Are we going to end up a much better team now that we "didn't" land Abreu after all?

Or everything still happens and Abreu is the DH and we are not only looking for a SP.

Took a look at the 2022 defensive comparisons between Bogaerts and Kim as they ranked in MLB for qualified SS (22 players).

dWAR (Fangraphs) … Bogaerts #8 (9.5) v Kim #10 (9.2)

DRS … Kim #6 (+10) v Bogaerts #11 (+5)

UZR/150 … Kim #5 (5.1) v Bogaerts #6 (4.7)

So on defense they are close and both are in the upper half of the qualified and upper 3rd among the 30 teams. Nothing to complain about.

Since Kim has handled 2B and is probably more agile … makes sense he goes to 2B when you consider the skill of turning a double play. A much bigger Bogaerts having never played 2B likely would have a transitional challenge.

This makes me feel a little better about X staying at SS for the next year or two, and then he can start migrating towards playing 2B. His arm still looked weak in the highlights I saw earlier today. However, it will be different watching him nightly and being able to see all the plays.

No matter what we do...Adding Othani at the deadline assuming LAA out of it... even if is for 2 months ..would be like the cherry on top of a double fudge 3 scoop hot fudge sundae

Important to remember that Xander's year in the field was a bit of an outlier. He was legit solid in 2022, but overall he's been subpar for his career. Here's hoping he's able to maintain that level of play in the field next season.

Of course we don’t know…maybe he went to Houston because he knew he would be playing 1B and not just the DH.

🤷🏻‍♂️
