I don't know about the rest of you but I "do not" like the extra innings rule.

But what about ties after the 12th inning?

Games don't go beyond the 12th inning very often anyway....I would much prefer 3 regular innings and then the possible tie if still

not decided.

What about you?

After watching the 10th inning rule last season ... I LOVE IT (and that was not my initial position). It adds immediate tension into the game and sets-up something that has been on the decline ... ACTION. Plus for the more casual fan, allows them to view closure (and adds the anticipation of that closure) vs. shutting down on 3+ hour games.

After the 10th, I would support ending the game as a tie. I am fine with the soccer approach of 3 points for a win - 1 point for a tie - 0 points for a loss ... end of season most points wins.

I know the Padres are not famous for issuing info until the have to, so with that in mind, have the Padres announced:

1. The composition of the roster for the “alternate site”

2. Any word on the plan for the “taxi squad”

3. The start of the minor league camp and any updates on players health, retirements, etc.

April 5th ... information should be available.

So you’d prefer to keep the rule as is but stop at a tie after the 10th or 12th innings?

on this subject....does the reliever who allows the runner on 2nd to score get tagged with an earned run?

And the loss?

Extra innings:  Earned run is "No".  But loss is "Yes" (both teams' P's in the same situation)

As I remember NOT an earned run ... not sure if gets a loss but probably yes.

I would end in a tie after 10.

Please provide updates on the returns of Trent Grisham (hamstring strain) and Austin Nola (fractured finger). — Paul T.

Dennis Lin:  Barring a setback, Grisham appears on track to rejoin the Padres for the start of their first road trip. Nola is further behind, though the team hopes to activate him before May.

This makes more sense.  Nola is still in SD; hasn't even moved to alt site for "game" action.  So look for Grisham and MAYBE 1 RP returning for Texas series, but really hasn't been a UT or other source update on the P's except for Lamet.

There has to be some "grey area" in determining when a player returns from the IL. However, at some point the player is healthy and wants to return ... not sure where the team, league, and the union stand on evaluating readiness but likely the union would not look kindly to artificially keeping a player sidelined (and arguably reducing his ML playing time and then stats for future earnings). I guess other teams might not like a team artificially manipulating their IL for advantage.

Having said that .... would guess the "extra" IL time would have to be significant to get anyone (except the player) really concerned.

======

IF the SP is good for the next 3 games and the pen has limited usage ... then the day off ... maybe we don't see a RP added this soon. Give them extra recovery time and work in a controlled environment (AZ). Give the incumbents more time to impress (or not) to determine the offsetting move(s).

Weathers and Crismatt looked good .. both could be optioned. Williams looked good but can't be optioned so may not want to DFA him. Not sure the opening day performance was bad enough for them to option Hill considering he is a LHP and was good for the most part in 2020.

Good or bad ... don't want to over react on 1 or 2 appearances ... and make a DFA call that can't be reversed.

The Padres have acquired righty James Norwood from the Cubs in exchange for right-handed pitching prospect Dauris Valdez, as announced by both teams.  Norwood has been optioned to San Diego’s alternate training site, and righty Javy Guerra has been moved to the 60-day injured list to create roster space.

Norwood had been designated for assignment by Chicago earlier this week.

Since Norwood has 2021 as an option year he provides some potential UP/DOWN pen coverage during the season.

From what I can tell .... major FB and good secondary as a baseline BUT really bad control/command. 27 year old. I guess worth the shot to drop him at that alternate site and see if the Padres' coaches can work on improving the control.

Hate to lose Dauris Valdez

Interesting to see how to gets on with the Cubs.
