2021 Season

Who's going to start the first season thread? Looking for some good Mojo!

World Series or Bust 2021!

Go Pads!

I'm a little confused. So is Lake Elsinore the Padres "alternate site" with a taxi squad of mostly triple A players that could be called up? And are there other players that will probably end up at El Paso in Peoria now starting AAA Spring Practice, and players like Abrams, Gore, Espinoza, Ona, and Hassell III, etc there also until the AA Spring Practice starts?

Lake Elsinore is NOT the alternate site (could not work out the contract details apparently) ... the alternate site is in Peoria complex. Very little know beyond that.

Expect that the "alternate site" roster will be kept very separated from the rest of the minor league players who either already in Peoria or on the way for their ST (their season starts May 4th). Given the current WASH situation bet that is a very hard rule separation.

Would expect that the roster of "alternate site" players are the expected AAA players suitable for emergency call-up and maybe a AA ticketed player but potentially good enough to jump the AAA players in a call-up situation. Everyone not so designated just have a "normal" ST.

Not sure what happens when the minors get into their seasons (May 4th) and how the call-up rules change ... league probably does not yet know. However for April .... they could well just go with minor league veterans ticketed for AAA on the alternate squad (most seem to think in the 25-30 number) ... not enough to get any real game prep ... so just drills I guess. The "prospects" might be better served at the minor league camp where they actually will have some game competition (even if only with the in-system players ... not sure if inter-organization games will be played.

Thanks

MLB has cancelled last 3 games of Mets-Nats series.

COVID isn't going away. What are the chances many teams complete a full schedule?

99.98% .... based on how well MLB navigated ST, the increasing deployment of the vaccines to everyone, and the pure desire of the owners.

Not sure what happen with the WASH players but probably at least one broke protocol and passed it on to the rest.

In CA ... and in a lot of other states ... vaccines are being made to all over 16 years old sometime in April and I would guess MLB teams will ensure the players will get the jab sooner than most.

Seems like April 8th the IL players can come off the IL ... and Nola, Grisham, Johnson, and Adams seem on the verge of being ready. That is a travel day as the Padres begin their initial road trip.

Considering a "taxi squad" will accompany the team and nothing is really going on at the alternative site except workouts ... could we see some combination of the IL players activated and on the taxi squad while the deactivate players staying around on the taxi squad for the road trip.

If all four are just activated ... optioned: Campusano; Marcano; Crismatt; Hill? ... no DFA for now.

I doubt all 4 are activated for Game 1 of Texas series.  Grisham sounds most likely, but mixed signals on Nola.  They are doing SOME type of "sim games" @ complex; that's where Grisham just got 5 AB.  But it will be harder to do so when 5 guys are gone with Taxi squad.

Agree that Tim Hill probably has to be the first option down; probably for Pierce Johnson, who it sounds like is closest to return.  The 2nd move is tough.  Entering 17 games in 17 days start of road trip, so Weathers after a few games will morph into the #6 SP, subtracting the best long man from the pen.  The only other real multi-inning guy is Crismatt (& Stammen maybe 2 IP max).  Doesn't seem like subtracting his "length" for maybe 1 IP max every other day at most Austin Adams is the right move.  Only other "options" are Pagan & Kela.  Pagan not going anywhere.  So Adams active would have to be: Crismatt, Kela, or Williams (DFA).

Once they get through or near end of the 17-in-17 stretch, it will be easier to make moves.  Might sit on Adams till then.

I could see Grisham and Johnson activated for the road trip then Nola and Adams activated for the next home stand a week later.

Pitchers to offset Johnson and Adams will be a challenge (unless some new pitching injuries emerge). Preller seems to reward performance (and much to learn in the next 3 games) but the way Weathers looked he looks to stay. Crismatt looked good in his appearance. Might not want to option either one. Williams looked good and would have to be DFA. Hill may slide to the first one optioned and could be recalled during the following home stand if others slip.

Then in a week, the Adams’ activation will have another week of performances to make the call on who gets moved off the roster. By then, not out of the question that Stammen or Paddack could be in the discussion.

I don't know about the rest of you but I "do not" like the extra innings rule.

But what about ties after the 12th inning?

Games don't go beyond the 12th inning very often anyway....I would much prefer 3 regular innings and then the possible tie if still

not decided.

What about you?
