2021 In season Roster Moves

Or Myers/Hosmer platoon at 1b.

Crone stays at 2b and Frazier plays RF.

This assuming we don’t get Gallo of course.

Did listen to a Pittsburgh writer discuss Frazier. Beyond the normal praise that is given in these situations … did get the feeling that he saw Frazier as an above average 2B (in the gold glove discussion) but only a serviceable OF without much of an arm … should not hurt but not a plus defensively.

So, to me, suggests that Frazier in LF/RF will be as needed rather than viewed as a regular destination.

Think moving of Hosmer is a key to make positional space and financial space for other moves (he is more of an issue than Myers). Plus still holding out for a complicated three team deal for the interest factor.

Since it sounds as though MINN is has decided to be a clear seller and Berrios is the best pitching option probably out there (and controlled in 2022) … wonder if the Padres use the key trade chips (Campusano?) plus others to swing that deal … then

with an “excess” starter move on Gallo with a package of Paddack - Lange base.

Don't think Rivas has any trade value of significance and really doubt Kim is moved with Marcano out of the picture. If anything happened to Tatis ... not eager to see Cronenworth or Machado shift to SS.

Profar and Mateo also SS by trade, yes? One position we are NOT short of anytime soon is SS.

The more this sinks in, Hosmer is definitely odd man out.

Cronenworth superior offensively and personally, he looks better at 1B than Hosmer. Frazier much better defender at 2B. Gotta keep Myers in RF unless you want to see Andy Green managed Myers return.

Hosmer to.....anyone, for......anything at this point is a win for SD.

I know Tingler loves L, R, L, R line ups but this isn't fantasy league! Get your best bats in the line up, game in, game out. There should not be a weakness 1-8.

Can still go L,R,L,R with this group minus Hosmer.

Frazier, Tatis, Crone, Machado, Grisham, Pham, Myers, Nola/Caratini.

I'm a bit fuzzy on what we did LAST trading deadline? I know we traded a lot of guys for what has turned out to be almost nothing but can't quite recall all those involved.

Can anyone with a good memory post who we moved out and who we got in return?

We are always so excited when AJ makes all these moves but ultimately, we end up with the short end of the stick.

Grandal for Kemp? Bad.

Fried for Upton? Bad.

Turner for Myers? Bad.

That was the 2015(?) trading frenzy. What was 2020?

We brought in Clevinger/Moreland/Castro/Rosenthal.

Right?

We brought in Clevinger/Moreland/Castro/Rosenthal.

Right?

Moreland: Potts / Rosario

Castro: G.Reyes

Rosenthal: D. Coleman

==== non-rentals

Clevinger / Allen / Waldron: Hedges / Quantrill / Naylor /Arias / Cantillo / Miller

Nola / Adams / Altavilla: Munoz / Torrens / France / Trammell

=======================================

Too early to tell if any of the pieces traded will be impact players and the Clevinger injury just blurs the value of the trade but as of now … not seeing any of the pieces being “impact” types. Some “nice” pieces but as we recall many where pushing for dumping Hedges / Quantrill / Naylor anyway.

Then don’t loose site that these moves actually helped the Padres get into the playoffs.

Crismatt optioned to EP

Paddack to 10 day IL

Tatis to 10 day IL

Knehr recalled

Diaz recalled

Marisnick activate

====

Hudson arrival pending … probably see one of Diaz or Knehr optioned when that happens.

So, Adams is the only player we dealt for last year trading deadline that his given the team any contribution? Wow.....10 for 1? That does not look good in ANY light.

We DESPERATELY need to have Clevinger come back and anchor our rotation for the foreseeable future for this swap to make any sense at all.

Nola producing long term would be nice as well.

I wonder how much rope Seidler has given AJ? If the current incarnation of our major leagues team doesn't win it all this year or next, Preller is looking for a new job fall of 2022.
