Trades June/July/Deadline

PreviousPage 94 of 125Next

I dont think I could be this patient as a GM..I would have made 2 or 3 smaller trades already... but "rapid fire" AJP loves to go boom boom boom.. hopefully this deadline doesn't go boom on his face and we are left with nothing!

You guys crack me up...trade the whole farm for mythical trades that aren't going to happen....I'm still trying to figure out who "Grishman" is...

AJ Preller is in a tough spot...if he doesn't land Soto or Ohtani...the world is over and if he does land either one then what is the short view versus the long view of this team moving forward....Peter Siedler didn't get to where he is by being stupid and if he feels the ROI is worth the cost....almost everybody on the roster and then some...maybe a deal gets done but even then this team still has to perform on the field and this team has so many holes that a Soto or Ohtani won't overcome that.....there are so many variables involved that AJ probably isn't sleeping well lately.

Regarding Tatis.....Expectations will kill you and anybody that knows anything about that injury / surgery aren't expecting some sort of prodigal son returns story.....IF Tatis can come back and help this team it would be a bonus but people need to tamp down the expectations both playing in the field and at the plate.

BTW....I hate these City Connect jerseys...they look like something you would see in a Ice Cream shop down at Seaport Village or a box of Jordan Almonds.

You sound like you are a lot of fun at parties.

Watching Cubs vs Giants...looks like Giants may sell .. OF Joc Peterson might be a solid fall back option IF Soto or Happ aren't optained

Yeah....being realistic / pragmatic  is a real hassle and I'm not a big fan of PFA solutions (Pulled from Air)

Rosenthal says tonight Preller is virtually certain to make at least one major move by the deadline.

Mentioning we are in on:

  • Soto
  • Contreras, Happ and maybe Robertson
  • Montas, Murphy and maybe Pinder

He also says we made a run at Ohtani, but nobody expects him to be moved.

Lin says we've been willing to discuss Abrams, Gore, Hassell, Merrill and Morejon, among others, in offers for Soto.

He also says many around the Padres believe Wood is their top prospect.

Also acknowledges that we've been linked to Bell and he'd be a huge upgrade.

The Padres have appeared determined to upgrade at catcher. Says we've had long interest in Christian Vasquez, and could have some in Eric Haase.

We would try Happ in CF.

Cubs are interested in Hassell.

Angels not impressed with our offers for Ohtani. If not traded, Preller will be in on him again this winter.

If we miss on a bat, says we've scouted Bieber, Rodon, Skubal and Thor.

They are interested in Gallo, but the price has been high.

Dump on the City jerseys but they are 3-0 with them. Wait till they lose one then I might agree with you .

Well … as usual … Preller is “interested” in about every potentially available player … at least in the mind of the reporters … how “interested” at what price is the unknown.

Since a seller has to agree … I guess Preller has to have back-up plans to back-up plans if sellers don’t play along at Preller’s max offer. Always looking to improve the roster.

Take rumors with a grain of salt but sure seems that the Padres being “interested” in Murphy - Contreras - Vasquez - Haase as an upgrade to catcher at this time might suggest some real concern about the current catching mix (probably Nola but could be both). Would not have had that high on the upgrade priorities now (it will take trade chips that could be used elsewhere … not purely independent actions).

If not now … this may become a issue in deals this winter … or an opportunity for Campusano.

Another rumor with the Padres “interested” in Bell (if true and how interested open to question) but curious with the DH/1B role already clogged with Hosmer, Voit, and Myers (who apparently is limited to DH/1B with his knee). That is where Bell fits and on a 13 man ML position player limit (2 going to catchers) … not going to fit all four in.

Is Myers knee going to keep him on the IL? Reports are that he is back in SD and maybe activated soon (consistent with deadline moves)?

Is Hosmer going on the IL with new reports suggesting he has s stiff neck? Lame idea but …. Other reports say the Padres are not “looking to trade Hosmer” but that does not suggest they would not if that fell into place as part of another deal.

Is one of Myers, Voit, or Hosmer buried in a deal for Bell (or someone else) to offset AAV?

Is all this just a smoke screen to clear the path for the next Adam Frazier?
