Trades June/July/Deadline
Quote from Henry Silvestre on June 5, 2022, 4:00 amWhat do we need? and where?
My list
Catcher- If we can get our hands on a better Catcher than Nola we should..
Answer: Wilson Contreras (Cubs).. adding the WS camp's experience and best C bat in baseball to the team would be huge.. he is a rental but could still cost us a huge upside 10ish spec... so Nola + Acosta SS for Contreras seems about right
The negative we lose a super cheap controllable starting C..The positive Contreras is a Huge offensive and defensive upgrade at C and 2-3 months in SD and maybe a 2nd ring could make him stay on a nice 5yr deal in the offseason..
CF/COF- I almost want to add 2 here.. my ideal picks would be Naquin who upgrades CF and can play any of the 3 and Benintendi who upgrades COF ...a good fall back option would be Mancini (OF/DH/1B) who could spell Myers (once at full strength) 2 times a week..Profar 2 times a week..Hosmer 1x a week and Voit 1x a week.. in essence starting everyday... while still allowing for Profar/Wil/Hos/Voit to get their ABs
I dont see how we need to add P .SP or BP at all with our depth and scheduled health upgrades...
So C- Contreras
CF/OF - Naquin
OF- Benintendi
1B/DH/OF - Mancini
Would be my targets in hope of landing 2 or ideally 3 of them with the 3rd one being Naquin
As far as Reynolds is concerned I see that option as more of an offseason move and after Frazier and Reynolds being sort of a one year track record at this point I am a little gun shy on Pirates hitters atm...
What would you all like to see?

Quote from Henry Silvestre on June 5, 2022, 6:01 amJust a quick observation ..LAD 6..NYM 7 and NYY 6.. regulars OPS at least .720... we have 2 (Manny and Hosmer) with a 3rd one being Alfaro (backup C) and potential 4th one falling a bit under in Profar... Tatis is potentially 4th Regular and 5th overall... with that OPS #... more why we need at least +1 Bat at Deadline and ideally 2 or 3... this SP and P in general (especially with the ones getting healthy) maybe the right mix to make us a WS champ ..why I think we need to push the envelop this season.. Rentals are not going to cost us (Hassell/Wood/Campy/CJ Abrams) so I am ok with dealing any others for a >Chance at a ring... AJP can backfill the system with the upcoming Draft and Intl signings as well as some trades for roster crunch excess arms...so losing 2 or 3 top 10-20 types and 2 or 3 20-40 types shouldn't stop AJP from getting us a bat or 3 for the "push"

OPS changes yearly. OPS+ gives you the player in comparison to the league that year. With 100 being MLB average you can quickly see who is good and who is not. The Padres currently have 4 regular starters with an OPS+ of over 100. 5 when Tatis comes back. 2019 WS champion Nationals? 4. 2001 WS champion Diamondbacks? 3. Should we get another bat? Absolutely! But 2 or 3 NEW STARTING position players? That's not going to happen.

Quote from dusty on June 6, 2022, 9:35 amJust waiting on the first major domino to fall...who will be the first to be traded Padre trade or non-Padre trade and which team? Do we need more teams 8+ games back? Maybe the Braves are the first team to make a move? Do the Phillies play off the surge they seem to be on after firing Girardi and energizing the team? At this stage, I see the Reds, Cubs, Pirates, Nationals, Marlins, Rockies, Orioles, Tigers, Royals, and A's as the sellers. In the NL, barring a surge from someone like the Rockies, Marlins, Pirates or Cubs, I see 9 teams (Dodgers, Padres, Giants, D-Backs, Brewers, Cardinals, Mets, Braves and Phillies) thinking they have a chance for one of the 6 playoff spots. In the AL, I see more like 11 teams (Yankees, Blue Jays, Rays, Red Sox, Twins, Guardians, White Sox, Astros, Angels, Rangers and Mariners) thinking they have a chance. Any surprise sellers or surprise buyers you guys see?
With Cronenworth and Voit definitely heating up and Grisham starting to put things together, we might be in better position than we think offensively. Myers being out a month should push us to make a move sooner for an outfielder, with Azocar going back to his bench role (although he has been very productive in his role).

Quote from Henry Silvestre on June 6, 2022, 10:43 amI only see Reds/KC and Baltimore as teams willing to sort of concede and trade right now or soon... most of the non competitive teams will probably wait til at least July or deadline to decide if they sell or not..a team like the Pirates for example (swept LAD) can get hot add an arm and be in the post season chat... or go the other way and sell a bit..

Quote from Henry Silvestre on June 6, 2022, 11:40 amSpeaking of Trades why not a Gallo + Brandon Lockridge (NYY #15 AA) for Myers.... NY willing to take an injured Myers and gamble on a Wil Hot Streak in post season and an option to bring Wil back in 23 or not... for the benched /NY fan hated now Gallo who in his own right needs a change of scene and a chance to play everyday and build his value back up for offseason FA... Lockridge is a bit old at 25 but has a nice speed/power 4th OFer type look to him and deepens our upper minors with another (Ruiz AA/Rooker AAA) OFer with a chance to earn a spot next ST... kinda like this gamble for NYY and Pads alike

Quote from Henry Silvestre on June 6, 2022, 11:44 amImagine the story line in a SD vs NYY WS showdown in which both Wil and Gallo go off and hit a bunch of bombs... Pads win in 7 obviously and Gallo abuses the right field porch for 3 bombs .. in an 8-6 Padres game 7 Win ..and wins the MVP for his 7 bombs in WS.. it would be sooo crazy and fun!

Quote from MrPadre19 on June 6, 2022, 12:03 pmThe Angels are an interesting team to watch to see what they do.
Does this tailspin continue?
Do they right the Ship and "add" pitching?
Or do they keep losing and trade a piece or two?
They do have a crowded Outfield.

Quote from WindsorUK on June 6, 2022, 11:59 pmWould the Angels want Snell? And which of their OF's could we get in return?
He must hold some value to some team, no?
He's just been SO bad in San Diego.

He was really really good his final 11 starts (2nd half) of last yr... looking at his stats .. everything is pretty much in line with his Ray days.. H/9 SO/9 etc... everything EXCEPT WALKS... way up! Over 5/9 in 2022... and last yr was high too... too much nibble 0-2 throw some low and in lower corner or low and away stuff or just challenge with a high fastball right at the upper edge of the zone.. dont try to make them Chase cause obviously you walk them everytime trying to make the perfect pitch.. his stuff is so good he doesn't have to nibble and nibbling is what gets him in long pitch count innings to begin with...let it rip son
He has lots of trade value...but not the same as when we traded for him... i wouldn't mind Adell for Snell straight up from LAA .. to be honest
