Potentially a domino effect in Preller moves (just making this up).

Trade Lamet and Voit (replaced by Baez and Myers) for a PTNL and save about the prorated portion of their combined $10MM AAV … enough to cover the add of most of the targeted players. Both Lamet and Voit can be DFA so no long term commitment to either by the buyers … so only a $1.5-2.0MM buy for a non-prospect PTNL.

Lamet has a lot of potential buyers at that price … worth the gamble for a RP needy team (worse than the Padres). A couple potential buyers for Voit … Cleveland for one.

That $10MM space could fund Bell or Happ or Contreras … one being attainable for a modest prospect package. Or for the big thinkers … more than half the way in paying for Soto (just add Myers to that deal and hope free!)

I can't get Lamet's near Cy Young season just a couple season ago out of my head.

Should we really trade him for a bag of peanuts?

Maybe the answer is yes?

Maybe we re-sign him while his value is lowest and he's a huge part of our rotation in 2024-?

He's still so young and that slider is still so damn good.....

Plus one more offseason of rest for that troubled arm might be all he needs to regain IT all.   Let him be our 5th SP for 23.. not a bad call at all..

Or its a waste of $6M± after arbitration this winter? Doubt that he would willing just sign a reduced contract. Worst case scenario for Lamet, SD DFAs him over the winter and somebody else takes a flier on him.

Is he really gonna get $6 mil after the last 2 seasons?

Serious question...does it just go up no matter what?

Cause he has been hurt "and" ineffective.

CF Yaztremski SF would not be a bad addition... he is scrappy good has 20 doubles and some pop.. its having a bad season but still over .700 OPS.. Grishma. Is 80 pts behind...again Not "The Move" but an incremental improvement from a player that plays the game right... he is on the wrong side of 30.. but I'd gamble on him.. at a low prospect cost...

Not so young .... he is 30 and perpetually injured with only one good run in the shortened 2020 ... time to move on from his $4.5MM for potential.

I dont think they ever go down no matter what. Might not go up that much maybe $5-5.5M, but why roll the dice?

Well it does not go down ... so at $4.5MM arbitration would give him a boost ... maybe not to $6MM but at least to $5MM.

If not traded ... and with the CBT crunch ... non-tender making him a FA. If you like try to resign him to a minor league deal with a chance to get back to the ML roster.

We could save the prospect, and for defensive reasons, just grab Jankowski off waivers. Just DFA'd by the NYM.

We need offensive upgrades .. Jank is not that.. if we can improve our OPS at 1B by 100pts...RF or Left by 70-100 pts... C by 70-150pts and CF by 80-100pts... all these are using players rentals and controlled who are or could be available... + Tatis upgrades CF by 300-500 pts .. RF by 200 pts..SS by 300 pts (vs RHP..vs LHp neutral as Kim destroys lefties).. thats a cumulative OPS improvement anywhere between 700-1000 pts over what we have now... HUGE

I almost feel like a Hosmer + whatever $$ it would take $20-$25 mil + a prospect for Josh Bell TODAY!  at least gives us a big + Bat headed into the weekend..Bell arrives for tomorrow's game...Myers (hopefully is already in SD) gets activated and starts at 1B tomight.. and the team gets fired up.. Lets Go Padres!
