Trades June/July/Deadline

If Bowdin’s comments about Rizzo waiting until Tues morning to make the call on dealing Soto (or not) and considering other GM are needing (wanting) upgrades … at what point do those GM switch off Soto and make deals for their other targets vs. potentially getting shut out trying to make a deal on Tuesday. Sellers may also not want to wait for a prospective buyers to fall out of the Soto race AND want their player.

Preller always is proposing deals for almost everyone … and for the higher end targets likely using the same prospects that could go the WASH. Soto may be the ideal (but only if you get him) and Otani is not a bad alternative …. Reynolds is not a bad alternative … maybe adding three upgrades is more useful for winning in 2022.

No guarantee that Preller can get Soto on Tuesday and no guarantee his alternative targets will be still there if he does not (and the seller may increase the price knowing Preller did not get Soto). Worst case for Preller is to get shut out on the big adds and be left with Adam Frazier and Marisnick.

Maybe should resurrect the Reynolds trade as an alternative … not Soto, not Otani … but a CF (big need) … 3.3 years control and could probably be had for less than it would take to get Soto or Otani leaving prospects for more upgrades.

PITT (if they like the Padres prospects offered) might be willing to move early to ensure they get those prospects. Not sure any of the other buyers for Soto will be as interested in Reynolds at a high price.

You would think Grishman (or Ruiz)+ RP Wilson + Campusano might appeal to Pitt as they are nearing the competitive stage..maybe a whole set of different specs/players that would take to get Soto..

Just saying AJP can probably get both..

But yeah I feel the same.. I think we need a trade in hand..like Josh Bell (Wash) for Myers + Zavala .. before Tuesday...have at least a difference making Bat on hand..

And a RP/SP....

If everyone waits til Tuesday for Montas/Castillo/Soto/Happ and Contreras it's going to be a s$%t show!

ACL Padres 11, ACL White Sox 0: Big game for everyone, especially since game-time temperature was a balmy 84 degrees. Future top pitching prospect Jarlin Susana 4.0IP 0H 0R 1BB 8Ks. Consistently between 98-99. Jackson Merrill 2-for-4 2B 2RBIs. CF Samuel Zavala 2-for-4 3B HR#1 2RBIs. Victor Acosta 0-for-4.

Hope we dont use all these guys as trade chips... I'd be ok with Zavala and Acosta...But Susana has that "IT" look.. 6'8" 260lbs 17-18 yr old.. who knows he maybe Randy Johnson size 6-10" when fully grown ..and his stuff maybe the best in our system.. with Gore "shut down"   I feel like Wash will push for Susana (Eta 2026-27).. long ways away...hopefully not and prefer Knehr (4IP 0R 0BB 5 SO last night AAA) + Wethers..maybe they take the soon to be 60IL Gore...who knows...

So here is my train of thought at the moment. We have the best SP staff since 1998, we have some real good BP pieces coming back, and Tatis on the way back.

This could be our best shot, go for it. Spend the farm, and get both Reynolds and Soto. Cut Voit if Myers is healthy.

Seidler just write the check for this season. It will be OK, you can afford it!

With those two pieces, we should have no problem living with Hosmer and Nola/Alfaro still in the line up.

LF - Soto, CF - Reynolds, RF - Profar, 3B - Machado, SS - Tatis, 2B - Crone, Hosmer - 1B, C - Nalfaro. Leaves a bench of Grisham, Myers, Kim, and Batten.

I would assume Soto would be the first in a flurry of moves if we get him. I don't think Soto alone gets us past the level of the Dodgers or some of the other contenders. If we give up the prospect haul it will take to get him I think it means we are going all in on winning a ring while we have him and Seidler is willing to write the check to support that. I would expect a bunch of moves towards that end.

Wouldn't cost more to add Bell and ship Hosmer to be honest... I'd add Bell/Reynolds + Soto...OR Othani /Reynolds and Bell

💯 agree with u... We need to "Go For It" and NOW is the time.... even if we empty our system ...it won't take AJP but 2 Intl classes and another draft to be at the same level we are pre trades at this moment... with AJPs talent of identifying Intl and draft worthy players AND signing them all.. our system really will never be baren... He is also good at finding low costing (spec/players) to fill MLB rosters...(Profar/Mazars/Alfaro/Hand etc. ) where he has some hit and miss is when he tries to fit square pegs in round holes with small sample of success guys like Nola/Frazier/Myers to some extend... So far he hasn't made the Big Marquee Player trade/s... I Feel this is his chance...

Baez to the 26 and will be activated today..

I dont know about just Soto.. but Soto + Tatis + Baez + Pomz+ Johnson + Suarez + Myers and Beatty (played AAA last night).. should get us closer to LAD

Is Baez in SD a sign of a trade announcement incoming?

To add Bell, probably 1 more real good prospect, and 2 more decent prospects. To have WAS take Hosmer back, would need to add 2 more decent prospects back as well. So that is 5 more prospects for that move. And yes, Bell is a really good upgrade over Hosmer. But probably not worth 5 more prospects worth. Just live with a platoon of Myers and Hosmer between 1B and DH based on splits.
