Hector Gomez says our offer for Soto includes Abrams, Hassell, Gore, Morejon, and Mears.

That's very nice... get it done

Buster Olney was reporting many execs are considering SD as the front runners as of this morning.

But in the same tweet, goes on to mention, the same "insiders" were the ones that SD was getting Scherzer too, until LAD swooped in and got both Scherzer and Turner.

So maybe, hold our breath, but the bird isnt landed yet.

Actually that works for me ... but what does "includes" imply? More?

Like everyone on that list (except Mears) but ... Morejon has had an injury history, Gore is a bit of talent without consistent production, Abrams is covered by the current INF (and Merrill is on the come), Hassell is not going to be around until 2024 (at best) ... so if you want to win in the near term, worth moving them.

Now the bigger question ... if that is the offer ... why is not WASH taking it? Are the Padres trying to get WASH to takes some bad contract (Hosmer?) to offset the 2022 CBT or have WASH send money?

Is there that "mystery team" that has a better package of prospects and/or does not worry about money offsets?

That's the million dollar ? My guess as an outsider..just like Hector's proposed reported deal are not necessarily 100% accurate... is that maybe Nats want to see Gore's medical tests as he sees the doctors today or tomorrow.. before agreeing to any trade....as they should

Nats maybe waiting on Cards final offer or others...

Etc etc... without being AJP we can speculate all we want .. but we won't really know what has been brewing behind close doors... what if Othani is who AJP really wants and is waiting on LAA for y or n ...or maybe he wants Soto + Bell but needs to trade Myers to get there????? Hopefully many of thesen?these?? Will be answered and to our liking and soon!

I am sure that Washington will wait for Gore's medicals before they trade, but I'm also sure the primary reason is to let every team see the offer and decide if they can or want to beat it. Washington will probably wait until late Tuesday night just to be sure.

Some one said they will make a decision at the latest in the morning of the deadline to give team/s that missed out time to pivot to plan B...

A 2nd OFer heading to NY, this time the NYM. Naquin and a MiL LHP to NYM for 2 MiLs.

Yeah I sort of wanted Naquin when Azocar was our bench OF...Naquin a vet can play all 3 positions and is a decent bat..he will be a 4th OFer for the Mets . Could have played for us a bit more especially at CF where his bat would be 100+ POS pts higher than Grishman

An article came out linking Reynolds (Pitt) to us and 2 other teams.. He wasn't in the lineup tonight vs Phillies.....hmmmm Reynolds vs Grishman in CF would be one of the most significant upgrades we could make

August 1, 2016: Traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Houston Astros for Josh Fields.

Here is a trade that really went wrong for the LAD... Y. ALVAREZ almost as bad as Pedro Martinez one ...

SP Eovaldi from Red Sox could be interesting add... he owns a 3.16 postseason ERA...is a very solid arm.. could we package Hosmer (3 errors by Franchy last night at 1B)..

Hosmer + $20mil + Lawson + a lesser spec or 2 (Vela?) for 2 months of Eovaldi... should do it... I think in a better ballpark and the NL West Eovaldi could be a huge add at the deadline

My understand is a number of other teams are “interested” in Eovoldi (including the LAD and PHIL) … combine that with it is unclear what Boston is thinking. Maybe just a negotiation ploy but came out and said they will not trade Bogarts (even though he is a very likely opt-out after the season) basically saying they still plan to contend for the playoffs (they are close enough that a winning streak could get them there). Not that many games to change that position.

Given their pitching situation … maybe can’t get Eovoldi but maybe in the effort by Preller to clear some CBT space to facilitate other deals Boston may be a buyer?

Personally hard to see BOST not being sellers after a very bad July and a very bad OF/1B/SP situation BUT I guess with all the FA to be … and the somewhat underwhelming return in a trade for those “rentals” … might as roll the dice on a hot streak and sneak into the playoffs and be buyers of some “rentals”.

Hosmer to Boston as a salary dump makes sense.

They haven’t had a solid 1b in awhile.

‘I think around the league Hosmer is still considered “solid”?

Agree … just having a difficult time balancing the “salary dump” advantage with sending money to BOST to take him (even with no return). Going forward, sending $15MM “saves” $24MM over 3 years and that probably is good. Makes Hosmer a $8MM player which might be fine with BOSTON.

A different approach … to get a better salary dump … is instead of sending money, send a decent prospect(s) and have BOST take close to the full contract. From Boston’s standpoint they have one of the poorest farm systems in MLB and will clear a lot of payroll with FA to be after the season.

Maybe Hosmer with one or two at the level of Knehr, Rosario, Weathers? Is saving an extra $15MM+/- worth dealing those prospects?
