I think part of it is maybe Manea or Snell moving out.. and Gore injured.. so I wouldn't be shocked if Montas and Davies were Padres soon...

BTW a trade that wouldn't kill us to make right now..Hosmer+ $20 mil ($5 x 4yrs) + Rosario + Knehr to AZ for Walker 1B/Peralta and Davies...

Not the big splash type of move BUT a move that sets up the next 2 or 3 moves

Then

CL Barlow

C Murphy + P Montas

OF Soto at the deadline

 

Snell needs a great F (he loves city connect night)... then crosses over to Twins or Jays or Guardians or NYY or whomever.. for specs that help us sweeten Soto or replenish a little depth after the deadline to our system

Based on history ... Preller is interested in everyone with the idea of making a good deal. Now acting on the interest ... different.

Hard to tell reality vs smoke screens. He is interested in Soto ... adding hitters ... adding catchers (Murphy rumor) ... adding RP ... adding SP ... plus moving Snell ... moving Hosmer. All this while dancing around (probably) not breaching the CBT threshold (unless maybe a Soto). Also, hard to tell what is Preller's reality vs all the "insiders" who somehow believe they have the insight.

So many targets ... so few prospects.

With what we need and the uncertainty of things developing or not.   I think AJP needs to make a trade or 2 in the next couple days.. I cant see him going into Tuesday without a deal or 2 in the books.. and then being at the mercy of the day to get it all done or not by the deadline

Given the fact that this organization is terrible at developing drafted talent then make that trade, let somebody else develop young players and cross your fingers that Machado stays, Soto is the missing piece and Tatis actually comes back to 80% of what he was and hope this pitching staff can hold it together for this season

Trading away your future makes the window to win it all very small

I view it the other way.. it expands the window..next 3 post seasons...and then you got graduating arms on the come in 25-26.. guys like Lesko/Snelling/Susana/etc..etc.. + 2 drafts (college batsbor arms next one to get help by 25??) ... so where as CJ. Hassell and company could be getting their feet wet over the next 2 to 3 yrs..  you just waste Manny..Tatis 3 yrs.. cause no team in the playoff hunt has more rookies than we do in 2022..and no team in the playoff run is banking on multiple rookies or 1 yr players to get them there...need vets to win in the post season..and can't waste this SP
