Benintendi to NYY for 3 prospects

Expect to see Gallo in a SD uni by game time Friday?

Gallo for Kerr and cash, no CBT money to SD.

Kerr is too much... maybe Azocar

They probably want a pitcher considering they just shipped out 3. And needs to be better than Azocar in order for NYY to send money back, basically buying Kerr for $$$.

I could live with an OF of LFProfar/CFGallo/RFSoto...

Wonder if Steve Wilson for Barlow works for KC... I hate trading rookie RP who show promise and have 5-6yr control.... BUT we need an experienced Closer and Barlow is likely the only one available...Soto (Detroit) would be awesome..but like Bednar (Pitt) would be too costly coming off All Star status and control...

Let's not forget we have Pom, Pierce and Suarez returning soon, plus Morejon looking like another solid option.

Focus on the bats, don't pigeonhole Rogers at the closer and see if a RP on the market shakes loose along the way.

Well, the Benintendi trade surprised me … not that it happened with NYY but the poor return to KC. Sikkema is 24 in A+ and the 39th pick in the 2019 draft … Way is 22 in A+ and a 4th round pick … Champlain is 22 in A and a 9th round pick. None of that screams good ML prospect.

IF that is all that KC could get … must have been a much lower demand for Benintendi that most expected even the commentary that there is a dearth of OF on the trade market. Also, might speculate (as has been before) the value of prospects is much more that we think … especially for “rentals”.

Always hard to project this deal on other deals since all “sellers” are different as well as the player evaluation … but maybe Bell’s cost is not that big a challenge.

Don’t want Gallo … but if the Padres did they could (should) wait for NYY to DFA him (no one will claim him and his contract) and sign him at minimum as a FA.

Sign Gallo - option Ruiz - Stammen to 60 day IL?

My thought on Gallo .. if we get him for $0 dollars and replace Ruiz (not the time to play a rookie)...we improve our team a lot..Def/power...sure thus is not "the Move" "the Bat"   but it sure improves our 26. Team needs Offense . GALLO improves it at zero cost... If he gets hot ..he is the type that hits 20Hrs in 2 months.. and IF those 2 months are Sept/Oct. Oh Doctor!

Clearly Rogers has to be out as the closer (actually close to be out of the pen totally) … he now leads MLB in BLOWN SAVES at 7 and his recent effectiveness makes me love Hill.

Having said that … not so sure the trading for Barlow (who should help the overall pen) would serve as the closer we seek. He has a fine ERA but while in 42 games only 16 saves (2 blown saves).

Now as a plus for the pen … yes … 29 but with control for a couple more years and a low cost. But a better closer than Suarez - Morejon - Pomeranz … probably not.

I would exhaust all other OF options pre-trade deadline before Gallo (if at all). When Gallo goes on waivers … it should be after the trade deadline before he hits FA.

The Padres traded 29 prospects between 2020-21. Of all those guys, so far the ones we regret losing?

Ty France (obviously)
Josh Naylor

To a lesser extent ...
Andres Munoz (although I think he'll eventually blow out his elbow again)
Cal Quantrill (a No. 4 or 5 now. His metrics are roughly the same as Manaea)
David Bednar

Almost all of the rest are inconsequential or too early to tell, guys like Patino, or the young guys traded to the Cubs.

Examples (guys traded for Darvish, Caratini)
Zach Davis
Reginald Preciado (Low A) .212/.272/.314 with a 40% K rate ... currently injured
Yeison Santana (High A) .268/.376/.329 ... 21 years old
Owen Cassie (High A) .272/.352/.435 with 10 HRs. Progressing well
Ismael Mena (ACL, 2nd season) .281/.347/.337 ... 19 years old ... extreme wild card

Now, would you make this trade again for Darvish?

Does anybody miss Francisco Mejia? Logan Allen? Gabriel Arias? Trammell? Joey Cantillo (who hasn't pitched since 2020)? Anderson Espinoza?

Kyle Glaser (Baseball America) did an analysis of trading prospects for big names. The vast majority of the time, the team acquiring the impact names (Soto) fare much, much better

Pretty good points..
