I know some of us on here have focused on getting Castillo from CIN, however, we all know that Preller has always had interest in Syndergaard.

He is making $21M this season in LAA and they are not going any where this season. So Myers, Lamet, Weathers, and one more decent prospect for Syndergaard? Myers and Lamet balance out the money for Syndergaard, so it would be at that time, Weathers and prospect for Syndergarrd?

Syndergaard is pitching well ... think LAA could get a better return from someone (although actually have not heard any Synergaard rumors). FA after the season and for the remainder of 2022 "only" about $7MM.

If nothing else a team with money that needs pitching would not have to try to push an offsetting contracts on LAA. If the Padres wanted the LAA to eat Syndergaard's contract ... that return prospect(s) would have to be better (and not include Lamet). Maybe more in the Rosario - Knehr (or Weathers) zone for a "rental" if LAA considers Snydergaard's salary "dead money" and other offers are weak.

I havent either, which is why I was thinking LAA might be happy in getting something better than a possible comp pick.

So Rosario and Knehr for Syndergaard and money to cover 2022 salary. I think that would work.

I may be in the minority but I think Wethers will be really really good ..so not trading him for 2 months of Noah... He is still super young

Which may be why LAA would want him instead of some prospect that we don't think will be that good ... especially if the Padres want them to eat the $7MM of Syndergaard remaining contact.

Have to give to get.

Wonder if LAA likes Kim... if we get Xander ...or when Tatis comes back we could bring Rosario up (if CJ is moved for Soto).. ?? Kim would be an expensive bench player to hang on to...LAA has zero at SS/2B... The $7mil for 2023 would be a nice savings..and Batten/Rosario could cover backup 2B/3B/SS for 23

that could work contingent on the Bogarts move ... considering Tatis is an after deadline activation and may or may not be available at SS every day. Without the Bogarts move ... middle INF of Abrams - Cronenworth - Rosario - Batten could work well enough while the add of Syndergaard should provide more incremental value to the overall team.

Is there a scenario that Preller continues to pursue moving Hosmer ... but not buried in a deal for a major add ... but by including a quality prospect(s) package just to move him and his contract? Sort of addition by subtraction ... Myers takes over 1B or Cronenworth to 1B (Kim / Abrams to 2B after Tatis' return).

Would open a lot of AVV for other moves without over complicating negotiations trying to get Hosmer into the deal. In theory the same level of prospects would go to one team or the other.

Even if the second deal for the add never happens ... Myers will not be worse than Hosmer and Padres clear the no trade problem with Hosmer (and CBT issue) going forward. Hosmer's work has to push Preller to even be more aggressive in moving Hosmer (even at the cost).

Hosmer would look good in a Cubs uni

Listen to the D.Smith show and some discussion of potential directions of the Padres.

He suggested that the highest probability of an add is catcher (apparently a very high Padre priority) ... as expected Contreras's name came up even in a package with Happ.

However, dropped into the discussion was the possibility of Sean Murphy from OAK. Apparently Melvin really liked him in OAK. So who is Sean Murphy ... 27 ... is a gold glove C ... has 3 years control and is at league minimum in 2022. In the Fangraph's ranks of catchers with 200+ PA (24) he ranks #3 ... #5 in wRC+ and #1 in dWAR. (Alfaro #14 and Nola #20).

Murphy's name has come up in MLBTradeRumors with other teams "interested" ... so maybe in play but not coming cheap. Oakland will not take any player with a big contract ... prospects only please.

Low cost and 3 more years control ... plus an elite catcher and someone that has worked effectively with Melvin ... really fits the Padres and Melvin who wants defensive catchers. Oakland has a couple of elite catching prospect ... one in AAA which would make moving Murphy easier if they get a good prospect package in return.

What would the Padres have to give up for 3+ years of Murphy ... a lot ... probably Nola just to bridge to their catching prospects then ... Abrams plus ????

Would also open up Campusano for a trade and protect the roster a bit as Alfaro is a FA after 2023 ... upper Padres system does not have any major catching prospect.

I sort of like this move more than spending on a rental of Contreras (also an elite catcher) for its long term benefits. Contreras is the better hitter ... Murphy the better defense.

Interesting stat about the HR.

77% of the time the team who homers most, wins?????? Guys like Hosmer, Nola, and Kim are killin' us!

I know Adell isnt your favorite, however, with the potential CBT crunch for 2023 even and the potential need for up to 4 OFers. I wonder if it would make sense for SD and LAA to talk about Syndergaard and Adell and cash for Campusano, Knehr, and Mears.

LAA has plenty of middle INF prospects at different levels, and Stassi and Suzuki are not getting any younger.

Then make the trade for Murphy.

A couple of wrinkles that makes dealing Bogarts more difficult … he has full no trade provision in his contract … that with the given he will opt out … and the Red Sox being able to QO and get a Comp Pick makes getting a deal done very hard.

Hard to tell … since he knows he will be a FA … how motivated he would be pick up and move from Boston for 2 months to go to a team he does not like or he does not see as a legit WS team (even if that would motivate him). Given what he makes (and will make) and dollar incentive to waive the no trade probably does not work.
