Trades June/July/Deadline
Quote from lafnboy13 on July 21, 2022, 7:54 pmQuote from fenn68 on July 21, 2022, 7:06 pmIf I was in WASH position of trying to sell the club, my #1 priority was to make the sale more appealing to the buyers … and that may not be getting a bundle of unproven prospects that appeal to the current GM (who likely will get replaced) as the new owners install their own FO. That also may not be keeping Soto as a potential big money sign but clearly an uncertainty for the new owners.
I do buy into the clean the books of all liabilities and uncertainties for a “clean” sale and maybe a better price since the new owners are in it for at least 10 years. New owners can cleanly install their own philosophy from the get go.
So selling Soto linked to Corbin and take the “lesser” prospect package may be best for the sale (both seller and buyer). Not great for the fans … but who cares.
Pretty much my take which would disqualify us from getting him sans a fat OK from Seidler.

Heard some chattered that they may actually pivot the other way and take on some would be FA guys (aka like Myers) to get more/better specs inbthe return... not attaching Corbin..and Stacking the system.. so who knows.

See I thought the new Owners were already known and the point of extending him now,or trading him now,was so that would not have to be up to the new Ownership right out of the gate.
They want it settled before the end of the year when they take over so their first act as new Owners doesn't have to be trading the 23 year old Ted Williams.
Which, according to Olney,is why he is most likely to be dealt in the next two weeks. While more teams may get involved after the end of the season they won't be as desperate as they are now if they are contending.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on July 22, 2022, 8:37 amLots of mixed reports on Soto. I've seen reports they want to move him now. I've also seen reports that they want to wait until the off-season since more teams may get involved and the recent crop of draft picks will be available to trade. I've seen reports that they want to include Corbin in a deal and reports that they don't. I feel like nobody really knows, but it's the hot topic right now, so they write whatever they can about it anyway.

Quote from fenn68 on July 22, 2022, 9:04 amThere is not yet a buyer identified ... so far all that has happened is the Lerner family said the team will be sold and as soon as possible ... so not imminent deadline. They have hired a consulting / investment firm to facilitate arranging a deal. A$2B+/- deal will not close quickly.
Therefore, moving Soto may be the objective before the close but no urgency to do that right now ... off season is fine and within the timeline.

I think we need to go get Contreras.. in trade value Nola>Contreras mainly because of low $$ cost and tremendous control... attach Myers + Nola ..give them a 45 ish spec and call ot a day... doesn't hurt prospect haul for Soto..and gives us an upgrade at C/DH... Atl and Guardians could use Voit so there might be a play there ..as could Jays and others..Seattle?... I think AJP needs to make a BP play (Barlow?) And a Contreras play soon.. cause if Soto drags til deadline we maybe in a 2021 situation again..supposedly we had Gallo for Hosmer all but done ..with the thought of Frazier at 2B and Crone at 1B for the 2nd half and it all went to crap at the last moment .. same with Max

In Soto's case I do think his value right now (3post seasons vs 2) is > it will be in the offseason...but Nats ultimately hold the cards as to trading him or not... Judge in the offseason will take teams off of Soto..as will Xander.. Turner etc..
