Even though don’t (and haven’t) believed the Padres can deal Hosmer … keep trying to see some way without adding any real talent to the deal.
BOSTON seems like the only team that “could” be the trade partner.
They are deep in a playoff race mainly against their Division rivals which stings a bit more. They have a lot of money even though in the CBT penalty box. The really need a 1B. This year they rank:
#29 … wRC+ (74) … dWAR (-13.0) … WAR (-1.0) while
Hosmer … wRC+ (102) … dWAR (-6.7) … WAR (+0.3)
Plus Hosmer with his opposite field stroke may pepper the Green Monster. Hosmer would be huge improvement for BOST.
If the objective for the Padres is to clear some CBT space and avoid Hosmer getting no trade rights for 3 years … and don’t ask for a return … maybe BOST would bite.
Hosmer and $15MM ($5MM/year 2023-5) and just let him go. Would create the needed CBT space in 2022 and clear $13MM in the following 3 years. Boston fills a big current need and gets a serviceable 1B at a net $8MM/year going forward.

Dont think Wash wants Crone and his arb 1 $$... they want CJ better fit ..higher ceiling and 3 yrs of cheap cheap $$.. a super star type kid
I think it would take CJ + Gore + Victor Acossta and OF Zavala .. if it's just Soto
If it's Soto + Corbin ... package goes down to CJ + 3 of (Wethers/Lawson/Knehr/Zavala/Susana) or there abouts

WASH is asking way more than Abrams - Gore and some ACL types no matter the upside for Soto. That may be closer if Corbin is included.
If I were to guess ... Soto ends up being dealt to a team that takes Corbin (and his inflated contract) along with a couple of top line prospects. That is not the Padres.

Just watched the mighty NYY vs the low scoring Astros..Astros win 3-2 on a walk off.. was 2-1 NYY tied it top of the 9th.. Astros walked off...
Maybe pivot to land SP Luis Castillo... and add a couple rental bats like Contreras and Bell without having to touch more than 1 or 2 top specs or Gore or Abrams or Crone.....

Listening to Acee on the Smith show ... they noted that Campusano's name is not coming up in any of the trade rumors and not being discussed much by the Padres.
Tie that with his part-time catching in EP and his slipping power profile ... has Campusano lost a lot of projection / trade value?
Is he the "other guy" in a trade as opposed to the headliner?

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the discussions have begun and, unsurprisingly, Soto is drawing widespread interest. He lists the Mariners, Padres, Giants, Dodgers, Cardinals, Yankees and Mets as seven teams that have already opened up the lines of communication with Washington.

I would do that... if they add Corbin then one of Gore or CJ comes off.
