Trades June/July/Deadline

I just find it hard to believe the Reds or the Orioles would want anything to do with Snell or Myers.

"Maybe" with enough prospect talent added but even then as much as they would demand I believe will be much more than AJ would be willing to give up.

I think he is in a "add prospects" mode right now...not trade away more just to move a few high priced non performers.

It certainly could happen.Maybe adding Campy and Weathers would be enough for one to take Snellbut Weathers hasn't shown much promise in a year either.

It just seems a long shot to me....

Not saying those guys go to Reds or Baltimore at all.. i say we move them on separate deals or by including a 3rd team for prospects IF/When we acquire Castillo..

Ie ..Twins get Snell we get a couple specs

NYY get Lamet + Myers +$9 mil cash we get Gallo + spec

Baltimore and Reds get the specs from us..

No one is going to even take Myers (and his contract) given he is injured, had not been performing well in 2022, and a FA after the season … let alone give anything back.

As for dealing Snell (and his contract) an outside chance IF he pitches well before the trade deadline to a team on the bubble of the playoffs for a mid-tier prospect. The objective for the Padres would be opening up payroll space for a separate add. A 3-way might work here with a contender taking Snell … sending prospects to some team who sends to SD someone the Padres need. I can think of at least two teams that may want to add a SP (but there may be alternatives from other teams) … TOR and MINN … and both have decent prospects to send to a third team.

Although willing to deal Snell (although doing that before securing the FA SP is a big risk) … would not make the move by adding legit prospects just to get it done. Plus if the Padres would also want a good player in return … the prospect cost would even be higher to get that prospect AND take Snell’s salary.

Again I say Myers +$9mil which is Myers for FREE..as in 0 cost thats worth a lotto ticket and a Hot Myers for 2 weeks in October would be a force of nature in an AL playoff team.. 💯 worth the equivalent of a Padres #15 Ferguson A ball type

So why not keep Myers … for the same cost … and get the benefit of those 2 weeks in OCT to push the Padres over the top? Not as though the Padres have the depth in the OF.

However, that may be all academic given Myers knee injury may be a long term question  well past the trade deadline. Want him off the roster … just release him (as MILW did with Cain).

It looks as if SEA and KC have just broke the seal on the trade season, with the "first" big name of the season being traded.

SEA has acquired Carlos Santana and cash for one ML SP and a MiL "A" SP. Dont know the ability/ceiling of either of these pitchers or the amount of cash KC is attaching in the deal.

However, this will set a baseline for upcoming deals, and possibly Hosmer. Now I am not saying that we should trade Hosmer, mostly due to team chemistry which he seems to be essential. And while Hos is performing better than Santana this season, Hosmer does come with a lot more money attached to him, even if he were to opt out after this season, almost double the salary of Santana.

Could this mean that KC is getting close to be willing to move Bentinendi? Is he a big enough upgrade over Myers or Mazara to part with prospects?

Two non to minimal prospects to KC from Seattle. Fleming (23) RHSP in low A was a college pick out of Wake Forest last year (11th round) … so no high projection. Mills (27) is just a journeyman RP. So, maybe KC saves some money but do give Santana a shot for a playoff series in his waning years.

Santana was not doing all that well … but fills a SEA need with France’s injury. I would guess Benintendi would be a bit more but given he is a “rental” probably not a top prospect.

Benintendi is <Profar at this point so I don't see the "Upgrade" unless you add Azocar ... Profar + Benintendi >Profar + Azocar for sure...

My #1 OF target is now Hays (Orioles).. he can start at any of the 3 spots and os > than all of our OFers... 3 1/2 yrs of control will be expensive.. but we need quality long term solutions especially with a situation (offseason) in which Profar/Mazara and Myers are all likely FA...

Hays is a good target … but likely real real expensive in prospects IF BALT actually wants to deal him (or Mullins).

With the expanded playoffs and an “improving” team … both Hays and Mullins may be keys to a playoff slot in the next three years.

I “had” the image of BALT as a bottom feeder but even playing in the powerful AL EAST the still are tied in the losses with teams we considered contenders … LAA and SEA. So maybe they think they are closer that we think. So, a good chance they are not interested in A ball and lower prospects … plus they have the top catching prospect in MLB.

Plus Hays home/away splits are a little concerning, since his home field is Camden Yards and would be coming to the Petco and the other larger NL West parks like LA and SF. He could take a decent hit, and then be not much better than Grish.
