Unfortunately Lamet’s performance in relief yesterday did not help his trade value … when you factor in his contract … and it is the contract the Padres would benefit the most with a move.

I also did not help the Padres since using him in a critical situation still seems risky.

His velo and movement were a lot better..he had sone ?? Defense behind him that gave SF at least 2 extra outs.. but yeah he got rocked a couple times..

As for Scott..note to Bo Mel.. dont bring him out more than +1 inning .. +2 he got rocked last time. And although got through 2/3 and survived ..with 0 runs allowed on that +2 inning... he goes from Superman to Clark Robinson (not Kent) after +1.... (if I can see it you can see it Bob)

July 10: 2B/DH Robinson Canó traded to Braves
Canó was traded to Atlanta for cash considerations. The 39-year-old was playing for Triple-A El Paso, where he batted .333 with an .854 OPS in 21 games. He had an earlier 12-game stint with the Padres but was 3-for-33 with no extra-base hits.

The Padres took a flier on Canó after he was released by the Mets in May. New York remains responsible for the bulk of the veteran’s $23.4 million salary for this season and $24 million for next. -- Shaun O’Neill

IF we trade Snell ..with Gore struggling a bit.. AJP needs to make at least a Zach Davies (2 month rental) solid SP type move behind him... (BECAUSE we don't have the Minor league depth SP wise to compliment our MLB horses)... we dont need too..but injuries do happen and keeping that 7 MLB SP depth we've enjoy for most of the year would be ideal...

I know he wants Castillo (Reds) ..BUT I am not sure he can get Castillo AND that controllable CF type he desires without completely gutting our system.. BUT Castillo is one of would be 3 post season. SP for us SO????

The only other thing would be to hold on Snell and still go get Castillo  and a BAT and just blow past the Lux Tax..trading excess fat from what will soon be a 12 man deep BP

Interesting trade today, KC has traded for OFer Drew Waters today from ATL. He has struggled at AAA so far; however, you have to believe that this is probably a precursor to Benintendi being moved, probably soon.

I dont think Waters is anywhere near MLB ready so this trade has nothing to do with Benintendi coming or going...Is more of a gamble on Waters turning it around and being relevant or at least in a battle for CF in 2023...

Braves in essence got a lifer minor leaguer 3B who just isn't good enough to make it..BUT also $2.2 mil slot in pick #35 in the draft... which is of >Braves long term...

It's kind of a smart trade for both teams

Wonder if KC would trade Benintendi for Estury Ruiz straight up...(Ruiz was traded to us from KC)..

Not sure I would do that...even if Ruiz just becomes a valuable 4th OF ..his tools (speed/bat speed/hit) for 6 yrs of control are > than Benentendi for 2 months in my opinion...with that said I would trade a much higher ranked prospect Ruiz (#28) like Ferguson (#13) for Benentendi

It's also a good reminder about the volatility of prospects. Waters was a top 40 guy who was tearing up AA as a 20 year old in 2019. He was supposed to be a star. Now he's struggling in AAA for the second straight year and looking like a non-prospect.

Another trade target from KC could be Michael A Taylor. He is batting .265 with a .342 OBP and a true CFer and signed through 2023 on a 2 year deal for $9M. So the CBT hit would not be as difficult to cover as Benintendi.

Lamet and maybe Mears for Taylor?

Imagine if AJP pivots and goes for something unexpected at the deadline... TROUT... (if you think we can't afford him $$ think like this..would you trade Myers + Hosmer for Trout + Estury Ruiz...obviously YES ..Trouts $$ 37mil + Ruiz min> Myers + Hos money.. so if we can afford those 2 with Manny and Tatis we can afford TROUT)

Why it makes sense to pursue.. If we are going after Reynolds for a kings ramson (3 1/2 yrs control) why not go a couple more chips in for the best player in baseball and a > CF than Reynolds)

I would offer CJ Abrams + Hassell III + Campusano + Wethers + Khner + Myers (to fit Trout $$) + SNELL (maybe to a 3rd team like TOR (for more specs) unless LAA see more value for 2023 with him in Anaheim) + Azocar + Voit

Pads would have a post ASG OF of Profar/Trout/Mazara...with Grisham as 4th

Same IF when Tatis returns Machado/Tatis/Crone/Hosmer... vs LHP Tatis RF..Kim SS

DH Alfaro.. and whomever has the day off.. (Beaty/maybe Ruiz added after deal/Kowhley??)

In any case Steep steep price to pay..BUT I think short term and long term a win win for both teams..Trout would waive his no trade for a chance at post season baseball and still be happy in So Cal only 45 min drive south of where he is at..LAA fans of his can even become secondary Pad fans...LAA would clear the $$ necessary to retain Othani ... who by 2024 would be surrounded by a much better TEAM with CJ at SS..and Hassell in LF..Campy DH/C and Wethers and Khner 2/5 of the SP rotation.. really a true WIN /WIN for both Teams

Would probably need to put in a call to Cole Hamels as SP insurance after that trade...or a Zach Davies type SP for a lesser spec type rental ...to ensure enough SP depth..because this deal would have Lawson (AA) as next man up if we needed a SP for a bit...

Not sure Taylor is an upgrade tbf to Grishman.. he is having a career year and still only slightly better than Grishman.. if Grishman has a career norm 2nd half ..he would be >... to Improve on Grishman we need Reynolds /Hays or Laureano otherwise we just spinning wheels....
