Padre TRADE alert ⚠️

Robinson Cano traded to the Braves

First,no way the Angels trade Trout or Ohtani.

Fans would revolt and they would be ridiculed around the league no matter the return.

Second, the Orioles are the perfect example of why teams don’t sell until right at the deadline.

Can probably cross them off the list of sellers as they’ve won 8 in a row and find themselves just 2.5 games behind in the Wild Card race at the moment.

I can’t imagine Trout being dealt but at some point when LAA knows they will not sign Otani to an extension after 2023 they just may deal him and incur the rath of the home fans (but be loved by the fans of the buying team) and the national media who want Otani in a major national market (see NY or BOST).

MLB would love LAA to move Otani out from a team that sits in obscurity in Orange County (second fiddle to LAD) on the West Coast to a contending media giant on the East Coast. Under the table the league and TV may slip a few bucks to Arte Moreno to make that happen. Doubt they care about what the few LAA fans think.

Nationally they have been pushing that idea with for Trout for a couple of years … get the super stars in the spotlight for the good of the national market … and that is on the East Coast where all the real baseball fans exist.

As for the LAA fans … likely no one cares. STL survived post Pujols …. ATL is surviving post Freeman … and that goes on.

Robinson Cano traded to the Braves

Sold

Why wouldn’t the Angels just pay him?

I  mean, one guy who is the best pitcher on your team and would be the best hitter also if not for Trout.

If there was every a player to give $40 mil per its a guy who starts at 2 positions and excels for the price of one.

It’s the same as having two $20 mil guys but only using one roster spot.

Once again “Cash Considerations” gets dealt. Good for Cano getting another shot in the bigs.

EP is going to need some reinforcements of position players … a lot of catcher but now bare minimum of INF / OF. Might see Hollis and Ornelas moved up to EP … time for Hassell to SA?

Assuming he wants to get paid by the Angels. If he can get near the same money from a winner in a better city? He almost has to go to FA unless he loves the LAA … and no real indication he does. He will get the money from someone so he can ride out the process to his benefit and target a winning team as a home if he wants to be in the playoffs / World Series … he holds all the cards.

Well,that’s a different thing altogether.

If he won’t re-sign with the Halos then by all means they need to trade him as soon as possible.

Sooner the better for prospects.

Unfortunately Lamet’s performance in relief yesterday did not help his trade value … when you factor in his contract … and it is the contract the Padres would benefit the most with a move.

I also did not help the Padres since using him in a critical situation still seems risky.
