That would work for the CBT … at least for the Padres. BOST is currently over the first threshold but under the second level and this would keep them in this zone … so ultimately cost them a few extra dollar but they have the money. Given the AL Wild Card battle and the challenge of overcoming HOU and NYY in the playoffs … might be willing to take the money. Prospect in return.

That would open the options for adds … then worry about SP in 2023 in the winter.

For what? ...both of those guys have some trade value perhaps more than we think.. in order to trade Voit we need a BAT added.. simply replacing Voit with Tatis is not as much an offensive upgrade as replacing others...

I still think Snell to Toronto would give us the better specs..I like a lot of their teen age guys..with big upside

And Voit to Seattle where A Munoz BP could be on the deal back to us..as part of that package

One of Bell/Mancini or Contreras would be my preference to offset the Voit move.. all 3 can play 1B/DH..with one C also and 1 RF also giving us > Flex...

Yes, it eases Tatis back to the MLs, and then closer to the deadline, we now have room for another add.

If the Padres want to clear some CBT space for an add (different deal), Boston has to be very receptive to talking deals. I know we keep bringing up Snell but could using Clevinger or Martinez (both could be FA after the season) coupled with Voit (covered by Myers return) be an easier sell to Boston. Either way would clear over $10MM AAV … enough to add a Bell or Contreras’ contract and might actually yield a better prospect in return making dealing prospect easier for the likes of Bell or Contreras.

Since Snell is controlled for next season, and Voit is controlled for another two years, seems like they would be more valuable to BOS and yield better returns.

Plus, gotta be some pleasure watching Voit launch one in Yankee Stadium in BOS uni. Plus, BOS knows that Snell can handle pitching in the AL East.
