Trades June/July/Deadline
Quote from BoosterSD on July 8, 2022, 12:51 pmWonder if we could clear space and open the DH spot for Tatis to smooth back into playing by trading both Snell and Voit to BOS. Could save us about $15M for the season, and what about $5M for the balance of the season, however it works towards the CBT. Giving us room to absorb either the salary of either Bell or Contreras.

That would work for the CBT … at least for the Padres. BOST is currently over the first threshold but under the second level and this would keep them in this zone … so ultimately cost them a few extra dollar but they have the money. Given the AL Wild Card battle and the challenge of overcoming HOU and NYY in the playoffs … might be willing to take the money. Prospect in return.
That would open the options for adds … then worry about SP in 2023 in the winter.

For what? ...both of those guys have some trade value perhaps more than we think.. in order to trade Voit we need a BAT added.. simply replacing Voit with Tatis is not as much an offensive upgrade as replacing others...
I still think Snell to Toronto would give us the better specs..I like a lot of their teen age guys..with big upside
And Voit to Seattle where A Munoz BP could be on the deal back to us..as part of that package
One of Bell/Mancini or Contreras would be my preference to offset the Voit move.. all 3 can play 1B/DH..with one C also and 1 RF also giving us > Flex...

Quote from Henry Silvestre on July 8, 2022, 1:24 pmLaureano (BoMel connection) might not be a bad fallback option if Reynolds is a no no... Laureano would come in with even more control.. and likely at 60% of the cost of Reynolds...

Did you read all of my original post?????
Yes, it eases Tatis back to the MLs, and then closer to the deadline, we now have room for another add.

Quote from Henry Silvestre on July 8, 2022, 1:49 pmWith Rogers struggles lately... Jorge Lopez (Baltimore) might be a RHP compliment to both Pomz and Taylor... together with Garcia... a Garcia/Taylor...Pomz/Lopez... Johnson/Wilson ..Nick Mart/Cristmatt BP would be so much deeper and better than what we currently have...and Wilson...likely in AAA with Morejon/Baez /Castillo...and don't forget Suarez, hijole that AAA BP like a 2nd MLB BP once everyone heals
Looks like Hill (options and controlled) and Stanmen days maybe numbered..

Quote from Randy Manese on July 8, 2022, 2:03 pmI like the idea of Snell and Voit to Boston. Makes other trades possible. In the short term, Rooker might be just as effective as Voit and Martinez can go into the Snell's slot. We should have other RP alternatives that would cover the innings gap, but Snell not giving us many innings anyway. Problem arises for SP in 2023, so that probably makes re-signing Clevinger more important (of course, assuming we settle with Musgrove first!).

Quote from fenn68 on July 8, 2022, 5:39 pmBased on what I am seeing from Boston today and yesterday … they must be close to panic about holding on to a wild card slot even though they are sitting in the #1 slot now.
Announcers were embarrassed for Boston and their lack of pitching … basically the whole rotation on the IL (Sale is returning soon) and going with scrubs trying to fill innings. Then add they are playing Franchy Cordero at 1B and he badly misjudged a pop-up by the mound and missed the catch by feet … run scored. He also let a critical ball bounce out of his glove on a throw to 1B.
Boston has some elite hitters in Devers, Martinez, Bogarts, Story, Verdugo so legit contenders but a real deficiency in SP and 1B.
If the Padres want to clear some CBT space for an add (different deal), Boston has to be very receptive to talking deals. I know we keep bringing up Snell but could using Clevinger or Martinez (both could be FA after the season) coupled with Voit (covered by Myers return) be an easier sell to Boston. Either way would clear over $10MM AAV … enough to add a Bell or Contreras’ contract and might actually yield a better prospect in return making dealing prospect easier for the likes of Bell or Contreras.
I happen to really like Clevinger and Martinez but potentially FA after the season and maybe Bell or Contreras would do more for winning in 2022 that them. Just a different view.

I'll take 3B Blaze Jordan and Brandon Wlater LHP

Since Snell is controlled for next season, and Voit is controlled for another two years, seems like they would be more valuable to BOS and yield better returns.
Plus, gotta be some pleasure watching Voit launch one in Yankee Stadium in BOS uni. Plus, BOS knows that Snell can handle pitching in the AL East.
