Trades June/July/Deadline

Despite the hope that Preller pulls off some spectacular trades by 2 August, I think the luxury tax situation may just be too much of a burden to do these trades during this season. If that is the case, then some small tweaks might be in order to get the bench/starting line-up a little energized at relatively low cost.
Most people on the board are already in on Drury and I think he could be a good add even though his BA away from the hitter's park in Cincinnati drops by almost 100 points. I'm thinking that the Reds would take Eguy Rosario and Ryan Weathers for Drury.
Another fix could be a trade with Baltimore for Austin Hays. Baltimore has an excess of OF's and Hays may be the most affordable. I'd give them Grisham and Rooker, although they might want some INF help - how about Ripken Reyes (just kidding!).
Finally, I'd reunite with Franchy Cordero. Boston will probably take Nomar Mazara and Taylor Kohlwey in trade.
That's my low cost patch for this year and save the big trades post-season when the luxury tax ceiling estimate and the opts-out are likely known to a greater degree than they are today when those trade decisions have to be made.

I guess I am in the camp that does not see the upside of Drury. 29 and basically a career as a 2B/3B … very minimal OF. OK hitter 5 years ago then not much until in hitter friendly CINN (and good note that he is not hitting well outside CINN). Plus he is a FA after the season.
CINN would move him for a second tier minor league RP … and I still don’t want him.

As for Hays … BALT might accept Gore and Ruiz.

Yup Hays may even be more expensive than Reynolds...
With that said I think Hassell + Campy + Rosario + Wethers and Knehr (including Hosmer $$in the deal) for Hays + Mancini could work for both clubs. (Might take one more spec from us in the 10-20 range ..but think this is close)

I still think a sequence of trades
SP Luis Castillo to Pads
SP Blake Snell to Toronto
Bell to SDP
Hosmer out of SDP
OF help..Happ/Mancini/Reynolds/Hays/Santander/Benintendi (not my choice)/or lesser gets like Gamel/etc..
Add a couple BP arms going and maybe one coming back to us.. and that would be one hell of a deadline..
Likely we don't come close to this many transactions (or based on tax and 40 man crunch we actually exceed them) very uncertain deadline for sure...

Thanks for the feedback - this is why I rarely make any kind of trade predictions; they are so difficult to judge value for value and what other teams are thinking. It should be an interesting 26 days and likely something will be done to shake up the roster, especially on the hitting side. Strap yourself in for the ride!

Put me down for not wanting to trade Campusano ... I believe he will be worth the wait ... ie. he will swing a major league bat ...

Unfortunately according to BTV Hassell + Campy + Rosario + Weathers + Knehr is just enough to either get rid of Hosmer OR get just Hayes alone. Actually we still come up a little short for Hayes. Both? Not even close. Reality says we can possibly add a Mancini but very little more.

This kid is the highest rated catcher we've had since Alomar Jr.( and we see how that turned out!)
I'm trading Nola for a bucket of baseballs TODAY just to see Campusano in SD tomorrow. Give him the second half of the season with Alfaro( alternate the 2 between C and DH) to show what he's got.
If Melvin can't help this kid become an every day backstop, no one can. Time to find out what we actually have in one of our own.

My 2 cents. I think AJ will be extremely aggressive. He's 8 years in and has only had 1 winning season and that was only 60 games. Maybe he gets a pass on some of the earlier years, but with the resources and authority he's been given in recent years I think the expectations have to be higher. If we don't make the playoffs this year I think he's gone.
Last year everyone knew we needed starting pitching with all the injuries and poor performance. AJ didn't get any and we collapsed down the stretch. This year everyone can see we need offense. I think AJ will make sure we get what we need this time.
It's going to be hard. We're up against the cap and he's painted himself into a corner with some of the bad moves he made. He may have to buy and sell at the same time to try to shed salary while improving the team. I fully expect a flurry of moves.
I could see any of the prospects outside of Abrams, Hassell, Campusano, Wood, and Merrill going for a rental. I could see any of them being used in a big move for a player like Reynolds and or to shed salary. I could be wrong, but I think this is a make or break year for AJ. I expect he'll be very busy.

Agree Jeremy, Preller is 100% on the clock!
Need a deep run this year into the post season or he's gone.
This is his team, his system. It has yet to bear ANY fruit.
Win or go home.
