Groome is very solid...at one time he was a Gore type spec...let himself get fat and out of shape but still has good metrics... Wethers/Groome/Khner in AAA should compete for Nick Martinez type role in 2023.. while providing depth for 5 SPs

Should be a challenge to produce a Top 30 at the end of the season with the prospects left and most with no full season record and some of carryovers having bad seasons while being a year older.

Think an "extension" does not kick in until next year setting a new AAV then. Think Profar's AAV is $7MM AAV hard to see Profar taking an extension and a pay cut going forward to lower the AAV. Pretty sure the league would have rules about manipulation. I could see a game where the 2022 contract is ripped up and replaced by what has been paid ... league minimum for two months plus about $4MM. The sign an extension that starts in 2023 at a price that compensates Profar for the lower 2022 salary.

That would be so apparent that the league and the union might intervene and void that.
