Padres have to put a big push to extend Bell now that Hosmer and Voit are gone and Myers to be a FA. If they let Bell walk ... really need a 1B and a DH and doubt they can buy that quality at a better price than what they will need for Bell. Zip in the near term to cover 1B - DH - CF - LF (as Profar opts out).

Looking forward to getting home and playing around with my excel spreadsheet and seeing where the dollars sit after all the dust settles. Then figuring out how SD can march forward in the offseason.

Are we sure he opts out? I think he loves SD, is on one of the best teams in ML, and Preller has shown a lot of faith in Profar. Maybe he stays.

Guessing he signs an extension as both side seem to love him in SD but coming back given his performance the year at only $7.5MM and no guarantee going forward probably does not fit.

I could see the Padres going 3 years at somewhere between $30-39MM. Nothing coming for the OF near term and Profar is a known positive asset. That would only add between $3MM and $6MM to AAV.

I am guessing Profar leaves after this year and Soto returns to LF where he belongs.

Soto 17.1m

Hader 11m

Bell 10m

Hosmer 18m

Rogers 7.3m

Voit 5.45m

Lamet 4.78m

So the prorated portion of 38.1m coming in with 35.53m going out if Boston takes on all of what Hosmer is owed this year.

So maybe need to shed another prorated $3.5MM to dip under .... basically a $10-11MM contract ... so would they still try to move Myers' contract by attaching a prospect? Probably not but that seems the only route to get back under ... if that is all that important at this point.

Like Wil or not ... bridging the next 2-3 weeks without Tatis and Myers might be worrisome and cost a game or two ... enough to cause concern in race when every game lost is important.

Padres to acquire Brandon Drury from CIN, players to CIN not known at this time.

Odd we haven’t yet heard any of the details of the Hosmer to Bos deal.

Are we paying all his salary the next 3 years?

Are we sending prospect(s) to get them to pay all/some?

Campusano?

Who plays CF - RF in 2023 if Profar leaves ... knowing that Bell and Myers are FA.

Tatis - Soto - Machado may be great ... Kim -Cronenworth quite good ... then fall into the abyss with AAAA type filler? This at the same time Clevinger and Manaea for FA with maybe only Morejon moving to a SP role.

Not sure defensively Soto is better in LF or RF (not really good at either) but if preferred I could see Profar in RF ... he has the arm.

Wow and now we got Drury for Acosta. This is nuts.

Gotta wonder where he is going to play?

Nice ... the back-up INF with a bat (maybe even DH) ... FA after the season so as a rental should not be a big prospect going.

... wrong Acosta is a big (but years away) prospect for a rental.

A plus is Drury is at league minimum I think.

Drury is a good add but his 2022 is his best season ... and in CINN so maybe not quite as good as the stats imply.

Much better bench strength in the INF that Batten ... another sign that the Padres are going all in.
