PreviousPage 116 of 125Next

Our new starting lineup and their OPS+ this year:

Tatis-160(lifetime)

Soto-159

Machado-153

Bell-152

Profar-124

Alfaro-115

Voit-113

Cronenworth -111

Grisham-83

That's a pretty nice lineup! Only 1 below average hitter!?!

Don't see an issue for 2022 (of course without injury) ... with Hosmer gone ... Bell probably gets 1B and some DH with Myers at 1B (never Voit at 1B).

We will see what changes when Tatis returns in 2-3 weeks. A lot may hinge on how everyone performs in those weeks.

I would be comfortable with an INF of Machado - Kim - Cronenworth - Myers with Bell DH ... move on from Voit. Insert Tatis in CF (was not a proponent but in the current mix ... I would go that way). Excellent INF defense and would bet Myers > Grisham for offense.

Worry about 2023 in the winter with a World Series ring.

Except for Game 1 today, Voit at 1B, and Myers at DH.

Probably giving Myers a rest to avoid back to back games in the field, just being back.

Expect so ... clearly not looking for Myers in the OF for a long time if at all in 2022.

From a money stand point, forget what SD is paying, and look at the marketing they will have for the next 2+ years.

Tatis-Soto-Machado, there is some swag in that trio!

MLB is going to love this trio!!

This has got to be 1 April and not 2 August...Padres get Juan Soto and the Dodges get Joey Gallo!  Padres' fans were braced for Gallo and despite the cost in prospects, there still are other prospects in the system IF Preller doesn't trade them in the next 3 hours.

As much as I like Susana, didn't we just sign Lesko and Snelling, both of whom may be more advanced pitching-wise than Susana.  Susana certainly wouldn't have been ready to contribute next year and the likelihood is Lesko (and possibly Snelling) will progress faster than Susana would have in the minor league system.

As much as I like Gore, didn't many of us think he was done after struggling the past 2 years and we were going to be happy to get something at all for him?  True, he started out great but now has arm concerns and could be headed to TJ surgery in a year or so.  He may still out to be very good but, again, not for a couple of more years.

CJ Abrams I liked a lot better for his projection then his productivity.  Awesome athletically, but can't seem to take a walk to get his OBP up and utilize his speed.  Long-term potential superstar but at present Kim is the much better baseball player.

Hassell and Wood - both are going to be excellent hitters but still one to three years away, respectively.  You could only hope that one or the other would reach the level of Soto by the time either is 23 - we already have the real thing!

If this trade rids us of Hosmer's contract, it is a slam dunk.  Keep Bell not Hosmer or Voit or Myers.

One name that didn't seem to be included in this trade is Adrian Morejon. That should help to keep our bullpen strong for the rest of this year and give us a possible additional starter next year. Nice.

Luke Voit heading to DC because Hosmer said no?

Its being reported now, that Voit is going to WAS in place of Hosmer.

Line up has not been changed according to Gameday.

Luke Voit is headed to the Nationals in the trade that brings Soto and Bell to SD, per a source. (Deal pending medicals, still not quite final.) Voit replaces Eric Hosmer in the deal, with Hosmer instead going to Boston, along with cash and/or prospects for an unspecified return.
