Trades June/July/Deadline

PreviousPage 111 of 125Next

I hate giving up our top prospects, several of whom likely will be All-stars in the future BUT Soto is a generational talent and at 23 years of age more accomplished with even a higher ceiling than Hassell, Abrams or Wood will ever be.  The prospect package haul for Washington is tremendous but they are still prospects who are 2-3 years or more away from contributing at a high level in the big leagues.  Even if we can't extend Soto, we should get a few of prospects back who are equal to what we traded away.  A good day for Padres fans when it is officially announced!

Who wouldn't take 3 1/2 yrs of Hosmer for $8 mil

San Diego #Padres 1B Eric Hosmer has NOT approved the trade to Washington. The #Nats are on his no-trade list. It remains to be seen if he changes his mind.

With Soto in front and Bell behind Manny about to go nutz with the bat.... cant pitch around him now

We are paying all $39 mil for next 3 yrs.. Nats only paying $8 mil for 2022... I am sure 19 other teams would gladly take Hosmer for 3 1/2 yrs at $8 mil

Yikes! Padres would be carrying "dead money" AAV of $13MM for the next three years. Soto will be in the mid-20s and to re-sign Bell probably in the $15MM range (or more).

Forget the luxury tax concern ... just sorting through the cash to fill in the blanks will be a challenge.

Talk about going all in for 2022.

The trade will happen ... but time is still on the clock ... might Preller work on finding a team not on Hosmer's list ... work a deal he can't block ... using prospects (Merrill, Campusano, etc.) to get they buyer to take salary?

As Henry states, IF SD is willing to include this much money, pull him out of the WAS deal and send him to BOS for a bag of balls.

You would think BOS would take Hosmer for about $7.5M for the balance of the season.

Yikes!

Hosmer needs to act professional here. Accept the deal, opt out at the end of the year. Choose your spot for next year.

No way we have any chance of making the playoffs this year- or ever- if Hosmer sticks around after this.

Work out a deal with KC, to send Hosmer and Grisham with prospects and some money, and get Michael A. Taylor back for CF.

We can sub Myers in... to Was.. and stay under that way.. or do both .. if we are including that $$ .. $39 mil.. we could get a 3rd team in the deal Bosox probably not on his list to take Hosmer for FREE..since Nats paying 2022 and we are 23-24-25... who wouldn't take Hosmer for $0 dollars

No need to attach anything to anyone.. should get a couple specs in return to be fair...$0 for Hosmer 3 1/2 yrs is a move teams should lineup for
