Nats have informed Soto he is a Padre.
Imagine if Hosmer invokes his no trade?
I’m guessing the deal is still done but it would then cost us an extra $39 mil.
The Nats would be fine not having Hosmer…this would only hurt SD.

If Hosmer invokes his no trade he'll be booked every AB for the rest of his time in San Diego.

He has a 10 team no trade... means 19 other teams are in play... we could ship him elsewhere and pay $$$$ to do so.. (vs specs).. or vice versa....
He should be The Leader he is supposed to be and waive his NTC to the Nats..in exchange for lifetime tickets to Petco events..Pads and other..He can then cheer for the Pads in the WS later in October and get another ring for helping us get there

OK really, who do you pitch around in this line up now, especially once Tatis gets back?
SD now has two switch hitters, two great RH bats, a great LH bat in Soto, and really, really good LH bat in Crone. So much balance now.
Tatis, Soto, Machado, Bell, Crone, and Profar.........pick you poison bitches!!
The weekend series in LA just got that much more interesting!

The Nats would be fine not having Hosmer…this would only hurt SD.
My guess is that Padres sub in Myers and Voit (about the same AAV in 2022). However, 2023 becomes a bigger problem. Doubt WASH really cares about getting Hosmer ... just getting the deal done.
Padres would probably have to find a team not on Hosmer's no trade list and add a prospect (or two) the get them to take him and clear his AAV for the future.

I can't see why he wouldn't waive the NTC. He does himself no good sitting on the bench for the balance of the season.

Moving Hosmer to another team and paying down his contract does not help the CBT in 2023 and beyond.

If Hosmer is in the trade Nats would only pay the remainder of this year only. SD pays all of the next 3 years according to sources.
