So if I’m reading this correctly Hedges is so good defensively he will cause problems with our staff all wanting him to Catch them so we need to trade him away.

I think that excludes some important details from what I said. The offense needs to improve right, Mr. P? I’ve seen you say that multiple times. Replacing Mejia with a guy who hit .176 would definitely improve the offense. Yes, the staff will want Hedges to catch them over Mejia. I don’t see Hedges being fine with a split time/personal catcher role. All that combined with a young catcher knowing the staff wants the other guy I’m sure won’t help Mejias development. There is plenty of potential for clubhouse issues with all that. My main point in the last post was I think Hedges was extremely  valuable to the 2018, 2019 Padres teams with an ultra young staff. He did a hell of a job! If we add an Ace and have a dominant pitching staff, I feel Hedges skill set isn’t as important to 2020 Padres.

All Hedges has to do is hit .215 and he should start 125 games.

Someone will work with him to try to reduce that upper cut swing and miss he has made worse.

Yes we need offense......and I suspect we "will" add offense....so if we add offense we should be able to play the defense first Catcher IMO.

I like Mejia....but a Catcher like Hedges "defensively" is as rare or rarer than an all star "offensive" Catcher.

At the very minimum he has enough value as the "best defender in MLB at his position" that we don't just jettison him to avoid a controversy over who gets to have him catch them.

That's my point.

Interesting!  But LAD get only 1 yr Yates.  Patino the "big" piece.  If Pederson > Myers (who would go on to hit .320 / .400 / .500 in LA, I'm sure), and Lux > Urias,  not sure that's enough in division...

LOVE the FA suggestions though.  Esp Kendrick!  He's a perfect fit playing some 2B, OF, DH ALWAYS! & 1B vs LHP

Its kind of a 1 year of Yates for 1 year of Pederson, and then Urias, Patino, Bolanos, and Myers money to get Lux. I guess it would depend on the value the LAD puts on Urias, Patino, and Bolanos compared to Lux. So might be a little light. But I still think there is extra value in the SD side of Yates and Pederson. I just think that LAD is LHH heavy, we are RHH heavy, and their bullpen is what cost them the chance of getting to the WS. I know that the fans are definitely upset with the post season failures, and you would have to think that LAD FO office is also wondering "what the hell" do we have to do to finish. So maybe a little desperation?

Problem being as soon as Urias becomes a Dodger he will hit .320 and Lux will don the Brown and Gold and cease hitting.

Because Padres.

Way to be optimistic MrP. Love it! 😁👍

If the Padres pencil 7 legit hitters in the lineup ahead of Hedges I would be happy to have him as the starter. I just don’t think Hedges OVERALL value is much of a fit to the 2020 Padres IF we need offensive help and have a dominant pitching staff heading into the season.

Lux has more helium right now than any prospect in baseball. Any trade for him would start with Tatis, Gore or Paddack and more would have to be added. Adding him could very well give us the best infield in the game though. Still be in desperate need of outfielders though.

Hedges definitely has value. The problem is that he wouldn't bring enough in a trade to make it worth it to us. That being said, you know who could really use him? The Rays. Have you ever watched Tyler Glasnow pitch? His curveball and especially his slider break so much that half of the strikes he throws with them land in the dirt.

Reports are coming out that Wilson Contreras might be available in a trade. I wonder if AJP would have any interest in him. He’s under team control through 2022.

Been a Padre fan for 50 years.....I’m a lot of things but optimistic is low on the list.

More like a realist.

Heck I promised many years ago to get a Swinging Friar tattoo when we win our next Playoff game.

Im afraid I’ll be too old to do it when it finally happens.

And I was just going for a little humor anyway.

Ok, crazy trade idea. Myers, Yates, Urias, Bolanos, and Patino for Pederson and Lux. Then SD signs FAs Strasburg, Dickerson, Hudson, and Kendrick. Total salary for 2020 is about $147M.

Starting line up vs RHP, is Machado, Tatis, Lux, Hosmer, Mejia, Dickerson, Pederson, and Cordero. Bench is Renfroe, France or Garcia, Hedges, Margot, and Kendrick.

Starting line up vs LHP is Machado, Tatis, Lux, Kendrick, Hedges, Dickerson, Margot, and Renfroe. Bench is Pederson, France or Garcia, Mejia, Cordero, and Hosmer.

Starting rotation of Strasburg, Richards, Luchessi, Paddock, and Lamet.

Why on earth would either team do this ?

Trade in the division.....not a chance
