Tampa Bay Rays at San Diego Padres: April 25-17

Pitching was outstanding. But, the offense could not get anything going.

Kudos to Ornelas for his first major league hit.

They have lost 5 of the last 7 games, lost 6 of the last 10 games and have a 10-9 record since going 7-0 to open the season.

Let's take game 2 tomorrow.

GO PADRES!

1 unearned run allowed and we take the loss. That's brutal. Outside of Tatis this offense is hard to watch right now. Bogaerts and Machado need to do more while we wait for guys to get healthy.

On the upside, the rest of the NL West lost.

Ryan Bergert called up and will be in bullpen. King to start Wednesday.

Game 2 Lineup
1. Tatis RF
2. Sheets DH
3. Machado 3B
4. Bogaerts SS
5. Ornelas LF
6. Gurriel 1B
7. Iglesias 2B
8. Wade CF
9. Moldanado C

If Gurriel fails to get a hit on this homestand, highly likely he will be released when one of our injured is ready to come back.

Any chance Bogaerts starts to provide just a little bit of O whilst his teammates recover? Hell, any chance he provides anything above replacement level the rest of the 8 years he's here?

This guy just kills me! We DESPERATELY need his Boston bat to show up sometime soon. And we thought the Hosmer deal was a yoke around our proverbial neck. Well, the Bogaerts deal is more like a noose!

He cannot scuffle along around .250 and provide sub par defense. If the rest of this year continues as has his first 2 years, I'm not sure I even want to try 1B next spring. Rather just eat the majority of his money( I know, just when Hosmer's money comes off the books) and trade him for a bag of balls.

Question: was his stat line in Boston on the decline when he became an FA? I never knew his game as a Red Sock. He just seems....well.....meh.

Rant over.....looking forward to seeing if Ornelas or Gonzales can take control of LF. Sending good vibes to the young guys.

In his last season in Boston he was an All-Star, #9 in AL MVP voting, and won the Silver Slugger. His previous four years were also star quality with OPS' over .800.

At the time of signing few questioned is bat ... just his defense at SS.

Although, one concern was he was elite at Fenway ... still very good on the road (above average) just not super elite ....but that should have been a bit of a caution against such a mega contract. Teams still would have signed him on his road stats for a big contract ... just not as big.

The Padres have dropped their third striaight series and dropped into a second place tie with the Dodgers behind the Giants. They have lost 6 of the last 8 games and have gone 10-10 since the 7-0 start. Could that 7-0 start be a fluke?

The Padres did not look good tonight. The offense could not get anything going and then there was a dropped ball that should have been caught as well as base running blunders by Tatis, who got caught betweem 3rd and home and Ornelas getting picked off a 1st base.

Let's win the rubber match to prevent the sweep and face theGiants on a winning note.

GO PADRES!

It’s a sad state of affairs at the moment.

The replacements aren’t replacing
