Jankowski doesn't seem ready for callup at all ... 0-for-7 tonight in a game that the other hitters got 16 hits!

Still might see him called up if they want to use him for defense sub, PR as the 4th/5th OF. However, don’t see that happening  considering they optioned Naylor and the next drop from the position players off the 25 will likely be via an IL stint or a DFA/trade.

With Urias up and apparently being given a long audition ... Garcia LHH and doing well .... KInsler is the one they have to make the call on.

SUNDAY: The promotions of Baez and Morejon are official. The Padres made room for them by optioning outfielder Josh Naylor and righty Trey Wingenter to Triple-A El Paso. They also transferred injured pitchers Adam Warren and Miguel Diaz to the 60-day IL.

Always looking for reasons to be optimistic ... and Margot's recent performance (since he started using Garcia's bat) is giving me some. Yes, streaks are misleading and we are still in the smallish sample size period, but better to have a players performance improve after a slow start than have a hot start and fade. Consider,

For the season and CF with 220+ PA, Margot sits at #19 (WAR), #20 (wRC+), and #8 (dWAR) ... not great but not bad. However, in the past 30 days for CF with 70+ PA, Margot sits at #3 (WAR), #3 (wRC+), and #5 (dWAR) that is very good plus add that he is #1 in BB% and #2 in OBP only .001 behind the leader.

If reality settles in-between the two periods .... CF may not be a priority issue.

Lucchesi and Lauer last year, Paddack, Quantrill, Allen, Morejon this year.

Add having Lamet back......WOW....our pitching staff is really rounding out into fine form.

Then you throw in Reyes and Munoz in the pen, lots of homegrown talent in San Diego and they can play!

Good time to be a Padre fan.

Good game for Quantrill  and Tatis.  Also great  to  see  Urias with 2 BBs, exactly  what he needs to do ,being  patient  and getting  on base. Good piggyback  with Morejon  and Quantrill,  good contrast. Would  like  to see  Lamet and Allen share with 3 or 4 innings each.

Jankowski comes off the 60 day IL in the next couple of days and even if he remains in AAA another 40 man roster move is needed. Avila or Espinosa to the 60 day?

Padres have 9 players on the 60 day and with players coming off before the end of the season ... running out of new options to add to the 60 day ... plus that hinders any other non-roster options being added.

Not unreasonable to expect that if no minor deals are made prior to the trade deadline ... starting in August just some DFA moves will be used to clean house.

Pirela DFA, Jankowski optioned.

Jank could help this power heavy OF, but needs to get it rolling.  He is eligible to return 8/1... right after deadline, as is Naylor (7/31).  Hmmm...

So this would be the correct time to swap Margot and Tatis in the lineup.

Was thinking....who do you think will throw the Padres next complete game and in what year?

🙄

The Padres have played over 100 games and tonight was their THIRD win without hitting a home run!
