Quote from Alex Tamayo on July 19, 2019, 3:26 pmAt the end of the day if Lauer doesnt serve a meatball to Rizo we wouldve won, somehow we focused so much on the offense, when I think our pitching is the one that has failed in the clutch moments, how many game has our bullpen blown by now? With a decent bullpen we would be over. 500 by now, hands down, and our starting pitchers when they dont get run support they pitch lights out, when they do, they can not pass the 5th or 6th inning, and it has being like that the whole year, think about how little Mejía has contributed, and how much of a diference would be to have Hand and Cimber, even just having Hand would make the relief corps much better

Quote from WindsorUK on July 19, 2019, 3:49 pmI'm done with the Hosmer experience! He was brought in as a glue guy, a champion who could lead a clubhouse. But until now, he's been subpar at the the dish and absolutely sub par in the field.
Can Naylor or Reyes play first? We need to find out going forward because Hosmer just isn't that good.
Shame, as I was totally onboard about AJ signing him.

Quote from fenn68 on July 19, 2019, 6:08 pmUrias to be activated for tomorrow’s game (per Acee).
No word on the offset to the 25 man roster. The slate is pretty wide open with options with Naylor being the “safe” bet if no minor deal in the works. However, the way the Padres have been playing we could have a surprise or just an IL move.

Quote from BoosterSD on July 19, 2019, 6:09 pmAccording to MLBTR, Urias is being recalled to the big team. They did not list a corresponding move. Does Naylor get rewarded for hitting a PH HR with an all inclusive trip to El Paso? Is Kinsler being traded?

Hosmer is not going anywhere. While I liked the signing as well, we outbid ourselves and no one is going to take that contract. Todays play at 1B was horrible, overall though I think Hosmer is still better than most. He, like a lot of the team is simply going through a fielding slump. It will come back. However, Greene needs to do something to make it happen sooner than later.

This is a young team still for the most part. A lot of 1st of 2nd year players going through some growing pains. Not saying that we cant complain about it, or think they are capable of better because they are as they have shown it in sporadic bunches. Just the growing pains of a young team. Although this is what Hosmer was brought in for, to reign in a young team, he needs to step that part of his position up IMO. I like the rah rah stuff, but he also needs to chew some ass when they do some stupid stuff. Maybe he is doing that in the clubhouse. Did like seeing Machado doing what looked like some constructive jawing with L Allen the other day in Miami.

Padres are calling up Morejon per one report ... no corresponding move off the 25 man or the 40 man.

Quote from fenn68 on July 20, 2019, 10:51 amPer Acee, Baez is also in Chicago today along with Morejon .. both could be added to the 25 man tomorrow .... forcing 2 off the 40 man (or to 60 day DL).
Looking as though the Padres are shifting gears to developing for next year. The offset moves should be interesting.
Also, G.Reyes sent down to make room for Urias who is starting today at 2B. A bit surprised optioning a RP for Urias today. I guess tomorrow we should see the two moves being a pitcher and a position player.
Deal afoot?
