I'm looking forward to this platoon in CF.

Especially if Margot really has turned some kind of corner.

We need to see how good these two can be sharing CF duties.

It looks like we need to realize we can't depend on Franchy going forward.

He could certainly come back and contribute but at this point we need to consider his return

a luxury to take advantage of "if" it ever happens.

Agree the platoon seems the option for now.

On the Inciarte play ... I go back and forth on that one (was once a big fan) but in 2018 his production dropped to 265/325/380 and in 2019 218/300/323 (some of which is likely to the current DL stint ... lumbar strain ... but that is  concern in and of itself). Then layer in his contract $7.7MM (2020), $8.7MM (2021), plus a 2022 buyout at $1.02MM. Costly gamble on a guy who slumped in 2018 / injured in 2019.

Saw in Mark Bowman's bit on the Atlanta website his comment that at this point Inciarte would be just a throw-in in a deal ... he has been covering the Braves since 2001 so should have a pretty good sense of how most view Inciarte today.

I am guessing the Padres could get him if they took his contract and gave the Stammen but just not sure his contract fits the Padres ... may "hurt" roster construction for next season eating up too much space for too little production over the low cost Margot / Jankowski. IF he returned to his former self ... different story but maybe that idea is not based in probability.

One reason why he may be a good option for us.

I think its a good bet, when healthy,he returns to form.

The fact the Braves don't need him the next two years means we could get him cheaply....or maybe even get the Braves

to pay half his salary depending on what we give up.

Would prefer this option over sending serious prospect capital for someone else.

Plus who is a better CF option?

Starling Marte is about the only one i can come up with and he would definitely cost us more than Inciarte.

Either way......we probably don't do anything in regards to CF.

Agree that Marte will be too expensive but doubt the Braves would eat any payroll ... rather clear the payroll and use the space to add payroll of a SP/RP.

IF the Padres are out of contention by the end of the month, they may just opt to use the Margot / Jankowski platoon in CF to see what they really have then revisit trade options in the winter. Then again, they may use Yates to try to lure Atlanta to move Pache or Waters.

IF the Padres are in contention and Margot / Jankowski are NOT doing well ... might make a push BUT since Inciarte has been injured with the back not sure he will have been back playing (and clearly carries a health risk) to make a move for him. Agree that no really other great options apparently on the market.

A lot of "ifs" / "thens" but the Margot / Jankowski route for the remainder of 2019 seems the probable outcome.

I know that Margot has had a good past 2 weeks, we have seen this brief hot streak and then a lot of cold again. To be honest, I do not see a lot of difference between Margot and Gettys at this time. At this time, I would have no problem adding Margot to a deal to get what we need, and bring Gettys up and take what we get. IMO would not be worse than the standard Margot stats.

Must really want to get rid of Margot if Gettys is the acceptable replacement. In a hitter friendly PCL Gettys still only has a .297 OBP (same as Margot in the ML) and the 2nd highest Ks in all the PCL (good for a pitcher not so much for a hitter). Expect Gettys stats to drop at the ML level ... maybe to Hedges level.

But not problem dealing Margot in a package (will not get anything on his own) for the "right" return but just go with Myers in CF .... I would even prefer to gamble on Olivares making a jump from AA.

Not as much of "wanting" to get rid off, just IMO not an asset to the team anymore and is easily replaced. Plus, Gettys is no drop in defense and while less OBP, more power, and probably a better base stealer.  Plus Margot should be hitting arb process soon, so not a lot of value left to him.

And yes, Margot needs to be part of a package to another team, same as Hedges. Both need to move on IMO.

#Padres have traded Phil Maton to the #Indians for international bonus pool money. That clears a 40-man spot for Andres Munoz.
Also, catcher Austin Allen has been recalled. (Austin Hedges to begin second half on bereavement list.)
Also, also, Eric Lauer to begin the second half on bereavement list ... thus no one yet needs to be optioned to make 25 man roster space for Munoz.
Hedges and Lauer have to miss 3 games (max 7) ... so additional moves will be after the Atlanta series.

A bit surprised that the Padres did not bring back Jankowski after the break and option Naylor (who is not really contributing at this point in the ML.

Maybe they feel he is not ready but could be that they are not ready to make another 40 man roster move to get him off the 60 day IL ... just stretch it out until the last minute which should be around July 22nd.

Maton optioned to AAA .... Erlin recalled.

Thank goodness Padre management reads this message board 😂😂

We got some "international bonus pool money" for him ... well done, AJ!

(NOTE: "international bonus pool money" is the modern equivalent of "a bag of balls", I s'pose)

Anyone know how much? Would expect that the Padres have (will) spend to the limit, so extra allows them to sign another international prospect or two ... or maybe pay more for one of the better prospects.

Given the Padres relative strength in the international marketplace ... this is a lot better than a minor league "non-prospect" (Maton would not be worth more than that). A chance for something out of nothing.

TGMG. ( Thank God Maton's Gone )
