Regular Season thread.
Quote from fenn68 on June 29, 2019, 5:48 amAt the half way point the Wild Card is as wide open as I can ever recall. Half a season to go and 9 teams are within 3 games (in the loss column) of each other for TWO Wild Card spots.
39 losses: COLO; MILW; PHIL
40 losses: SAN DIEGO; WASH; STL
41 losses: PITT
42 losses: AZ; CINN
Every team has flaws and no way to predict which two will get hot and which will falter ... and when (before or after the trade deadline).
With 12 of the 15 NL teams still "in contention" should make the trade deadline strategies interesting ... at worst, this may severely limit the "sellers" until the last minute (if at all) ... in turn, the price for the limited number of trade targets from the few "sellers" will probably go higher than expected ... maybe curtailing deals. AL is not quite as tight so they will provide some additional "sellers" ...

Renfroe, Reyes already there. Machado almost, Hosmer on pace, as is Tatis and Meyers.
If Kinsler plays everyday and gets every at bat, he could get there.
The playoffs are a long shot- why not get some media coverage having 7 regulars hit 20 bombs a piece?
One reason the HRs are not getting much play is that in MLB 15 or 16 teams are on pace to set ALL TIME team records for HR.
Consider that Tommy La Stella had 10 HR in 947 PA before this season ..... in 2019, he as 16 HR in only 299 PA.
Basically, MLB has taken a lot of the cache out of the HR and made it common place. Side note: AAA (now using the MLB baseball) is on a pace that reflects a 40% INCREASE in HR over last season.
For we older guys ... setting all time HR records and all time strikeout records (think the pace is more strikeouts than hits) is more frustrating than enjoyable. No idea whether MLB likes this trend to appeal to the new generation of fans but if they don't ... time to change the standards on the baseball (reduce distance) which would reduce HR and maybe motivate hitters to once again to put balls in play.

Only one way to find out.

Quote from Cptjack on June 29, 2019, 8:09 amPick off moves need to be neutered if you want speed to play. Lauer doesn't get guys 3 steps off the bag because his is good, he gets them because it's patently unfair for the runner to discern where that magic line is, put some chalk on the mound and draw a damn line. Of course MLB needs to kill the delayed delivery entirely. Pitchers are now consistently doing illegal pitches it's just getting worse. I think I saw a Jays guy hold his leg up in the air for 2 pumps before coming to the plate.

Quote from WindsorUK on June 29, 2019, 8:53 amNever understood that move with lefties!
You were always taught in Little League that once that forward foot goes past the half way point, the pitcher HAD to go home. But in the bigs, seems like guys are nearly 100% forward and still go to first.
Totally agree.

Wisler ... DFA'd. He was out of minor league options and not pitching well, so should clear waivers. If the Padres get him down to AAA, maybe some additional work as a RP might bring him around considering his slider could be a quality offering out of the pen .. key may be command.
This opens a 40 man roster slot ... expect that goes quickly to Lamet coming off the 60 day DL then a question when he gets recalled to the 25 man.

It is a beautiful think when a super star gets hot.
Since Tatis has returned, the top 3 ... Tatis - Hosmer - Machado .... are just on fire. Not a bad core for years to come.

Anyone who says we aren’t disrespected isn’t paying attention.

And if Reyes or Renfroe dont get at least invited to the HR Derby, another BS snub for SD.
