And the winner is Logan Allen who is being called up to start Tuesday per Cassavell. No word on the required 25 man (likely Margevicius) or 40 man moves.

Even though he's named Tuesday's SP, I'm curious to see if the move/s are made today... think with blown out pen it would be prudent.  Let him watch a game from the dugout before his start?  Margevicius not available, so seems like it makes sense.

Fair point since I don't think they could call up a fresh RP for a one day stint ... Diaz, Erlin, and Stock are all within the 10 day non-recall window (unless an injury). Of course, Margevicius having a minor injury is not out of the question and going IL.

Did not expect this one from Acee:

This is all hands on deck.
I guess that is the today move with Allen tomorrow but Makita was dropped from the 40 man so the Padres may likely add Makita today and make their 40 man move then, one option, is to DFA Makita to make room for Allen tomorrow.
Don't think Makita will have a long shelf life BUT he is a durable RP so just maybe he hangs on .. someone else is optioned and a second 40 man roster move is used tomorrow.
Sure is interesting roster management.

Desperation more like it.   Makita could just be there today, get DFA'd tomorrow: no one is going to claim his almost 2 MM salary (if they did it would be a blessing).  So this is a smarter move than selecting & potentially losing your 4th-5th SP in AAA that someone might claim as depth.

I think in hindsight, Preller definitely picked the wrong time to "rotate" Paddack down.  Pads compounded the problem "burning" Robert Stock for 10 days when they called him up for just 1 day (didn't even pitch) between Paddack down & Strahm reinstated.

In an added feature .... A.Allen down and Mejia up.  Cordero to the 60 day DL for 40 man space for Makita.

=====

From some comments tomorrow was going to be a bullpen day until the Colorado series finished off that as an option. No real problem with Paddack being sent down .. he clearly needed to work on some stuff and needed some down time. More important to work on Paddack for the future than burning him out for a short term gain.

Psyched Mejia is back, hopefully to stay & get significantly bigger opportunity to play!

Great start for Lucchesi , gave the team a breather that they needed. Lots of transactions to digest with many more  to come.  Hope L Allen  can have a good start , he's  our  last shot in the Kimbrel trade.

I was really amped, liked most were, when Preller came in and made all the trades that winter. Other than Kemp producing big numbers and protecting Myers, all those deals have turned into turkeys( Grandal has been really good)

We're still paying the criminal we traded  for Kemp and not a lot else to show for it. As for Myers, we'd have been MUCH better off keeping Ross and Turner.

Ah, isn't hindsight a wonderful thing................

Kudos to Lucchesi ... 7 innings of quality pitching at a time when the bullpen need a breather was clutch. Combine with his last start where he went 6 innings (2 ER) and the previous start when after a 4 run 1st bounced back for 4 shut out innings and he is beginning to look more mature as a ML pitcher.

18 innings in June with a 3.00 ERA (which includes that initial bad 4 run first) is a good sign.

With the SD bullpen taking a beating this season; especially with over use, any chance they take a flier on recently released Cody Allen? He would be a league minimum salary with ANA on the hook for the balance of the salary. And with our history of turning around discarded RPs, could turn around well for SD.
