this 4 game series set the ALL TIME ML record for runs and came in 2nd all time for hits. .. Whew!
Padres showed some character for their never give up attitude resulting from some amazing come from behind efforts.

Has anyone else begin to worry about Reyes declining performance?
Last 30 games: 216/283/510 ... looking as though he is getting pitched more FB up and not handling it.
Also, the shift down in the line-up is not working ... not sure the cause / effect relationship here but
Batting #2: 135 AB .... 281/319/652
Batting #4: 39 AB ... 103/174/154
Batting #5: 27 AB ... 185/290/296
That is 66 AB down in the line-up ending up a disaster. Was Reyes "protected" hitting ahead of Machado getting better pitches to hit but down the line-up the pitchers are more focused on him and pitching him differently (and more effectively)?

Padres in a bit of a quandary now in the OF ... Myers (either LF or CF but much more effective in LF) and Renfroe (either LF or RF) are safe (baring a trade). Margot and Reyes are NOT hitting ... and frankly neither is Naylor but he is at least hitting better than the other two. In the longer term we should see Jankowski and Cordero back ... that may help. However in the short run ... for offense ... maybe the Naylor - Myers - Renfroe OF gets the bulk of the starts.

Reyes could be an combination of not batting in front of Machado and needing to make the next line of adjustments to how he is being pitched. We saw him last season start decent, decline, then via a stint in the minors, be productive when he returned. Round two of adjustments, laying off the higher pitch.
Naylor probably needs more time in AAA to work on what he has seen in the ML so far.
Maybe the best solution is Myers in LF, where he bats best. Margot in CF for the defense, which IMO is hurting the pitching more than is being shown, and Renfroe in RF. And maybe if Pirela is ready, bring him back up and let Reyes and Naylor work on some things in EP. Then depending on what Pirela does when Cordero is ready, figure out what to do.
Dont forget, Garcia can play LF and maybe RF in a pinch as well.

Of course, the best option is finding a way to ship out Myers. I still think there is a money exchange that can be worked out with SEA. Myers and a prospect or two for Leake and Gordon.

Wow! What a bonkers series. LOVE how team never gives up! It will serve them well going forward.
Haven't seen the 25/40 man this limited in a long time... I was hoping Jose Castillo would get activated today & bump Margevicius...but sounds like he had a setback in his last game... sigh.
There are NO pitchers available for a non injury recall. I'm thinking they add Logan Allen today (for Margevicius, Cordero to 60-day IL). He would be starter tomorrow, but also the guy who goes into the game if it's a blowout in the 2nd inning or something today.
Next P they could recall will be Paddack I think for 1st start of next series @ Pirates.
