Luckily SF sent him to AAA, or he would have gone 7-8 with 3 HR, 2 2B & 7 RBI against us in the 2 game series... 🙂

But seriously, glad to see Dickerson get a chance elsewhere, even if it is SF.  Really good hometown dude with bad luck on the injury front.  And very happy & intrigued by the return... fast moving high K college RP drafted 2017 so no roster pressure.   Losing Dickerson does change my outlook on Pirela though....

Some thoughts on 25 & 40-man roster:

1)   Prevailing thought on Pirela is he gets DFA'd when next player comes off 60-day DL (probably Jose Castillo).  Argument for is:  we have a "glut" of MLB OF, some MLB teams are desparate for OF help, he's red hot right now in AAA, and would likely yield a piece in trade like Alex Dickerson did.  But I am leaning the other way for 2 main reasons:  with Dickerson gone now, the AAA OF would be very thin without Pirela.  But more importantly, Franchy Cordero is really struggling:  .214 BA (39% K rate) /.750 OPS on team with 6 guys >1.000 OPS.  The "when Franchy comes back" discussion is OVER for the near term.  The issue is short term depth:  Cordero would be the callup if Margot or Myers got hurt, and MAYBE Naylor (since LH).  But Pirela is the obvious best callup for at least 2 & maybe 3 of the MLB OF.  Until that changes, Pirela should remain on roster.

2)  I swear I was already going to post that Mejia (.373 / 1.191 12 XBH in 56 PA & only 7 K!) should come back up today, but NOW why NOT put Hedges on IL for 10 days?  Already 3 days into it.  Let him fully heal for a few more days, then get some DH AB somewhere &  try to get that bat/confidence going.  Give Mejia 5 starts in 7 days & decide then if he or Austin Allen goes back down.  See if he can carry that offense over!

3)  Urias is also excelling (.346 / 1.117 in 215 PA, K rate < 20%), but I think has to wait until after this 9 games in a row stretch before he arrives:   The Pads are probably going to have at LEAST one piggyback game with Margevicius, then may send him down when Strahm is back.  Going into Colorado for 4 they will definitely need to keep their 8-man pen intact.  But after this stretch they then are:  off, 3 games, off, 2 games, off, 10 games, OFF for 4 days (ASB), 3 games, off, 6 games, off...

I feel they can navigate this stretch with a 7-man bullpen.  I'll be first to say Pads have & will continue to need an 8-man pen sometimes this season...   but Phil Maton or Gerardo Reyes are not as important to the team's future as Urias, or even the team's present as Greg Garcia & Ian Kinsler.   His roster path is not as obvious as Mejia's but it's even more important he come up soon to see if he can help & is a long term piece.

When is Paddack gonna have a 10 pitch inning?

He’s gotta learn to put guys way.

He’s at 23  pitches and has 1 out without a ball hit  hard.

Thank goodness for a double play ball!

Perfect example.....had Longoria 0-2 and threw 5 more fastballs before striking him out.

IMO he could have put him away with a change up on 0-2.

They must have planned to throw him fastballs.....fine,don’t go to 3-2 pitching “around” the zone.

Put.....Him.....Away!

Never gonna be an All Star or win a CY never making it past the 5th inning.

Driving me crazy!

2 outs....tying run at 3rd....0-2 on Tyler Austin....starts nibbling till it’s 3-2 and  then has to come down the middle.

Tie game.....then a guy who shouldn’t have hit in the inning hits it out.

When  you have the stuff Paddack does and you have a guy 0-2....Put Him Away!

Where is Balsley?...and where is the change up?

I think I need a few days off, I ll be back on Monday, hope we are doing better by then.

Hard to have a 10 pitch inning when Hedges doesn't call a change of pace in the AB. Hitters are spitting on the change that drops out of the zone and  the propensity to use the FB up instead of tunneling it hard at the bottom is going to continue to cause Hunt for Red Fastball. Doesn't help that Paddack doesn't seem to like those miss pitches Hedges calls and misses the zone by a lot.

Season is starting to get away from us- how do we right this ship?

The starting pitching- outside of Lucchesi and Lauer- has really regressed. The bullpen is, well, atrocious outside Yates and Perdomo. The everyday lineup is all over the place- Green needs to settle on EVERYDAY players! At the risk of sounding repetitive, MLB players NEED consistency! They need to know they'll be out there everyday in the same spot. I feel that our OF's are swinging for the fences so they'll play tomorrow. Renfroe, Myers, Reyes should start ALL THE TIME !

We should be a .500 at worst this year.
