Lauer is having another good game tonight ... 1 run in 6 innings. On his birthday (turns 24). This is his 12th start and really has only had 3 real clunkers ... he may be around longer than some think.
Reyes with the game tying HR .... 1-1 in the 6th.

Padres put up a 7 spot in the 6th ... key hits by Myers, Kinsler, Naylor, and a grand slam by Machado. Actually the took some walks.

I swear I was almost more happy with all the walks then the Slam. That's literally maybe the only inning this year I can remember where they strung together hits & walks, Naylor has the big 2 RBI pinch hit, and eventually Manny blows the doors off. Also has to ve one of hte very few games where we had more BB's than K's
A team with Tatis & Urias + Mejia & Cordero working in might be able to wear teams out like this offensively; more balance, less guys swinging from their heels 0-2.
That being said, I swear Hedges stole all 3 strike calls on the last batter. He does add enormous value that way.

If Myers and Machado get hot and Renfroe and Reyes keep hitting we could be tough to beat.
It's hard to get greedy but it sure would be nice to have all four go on a tear at the same time for a few weeks.
It sure seems to me that Machado misses Tatis the most.

Yeah, whole lineup misses him! His absence partly to blame for guys in the wrong place IMO. I don't care what new sabermetrics or Andy Green say; it does not make sense to have vs RHP: Reyes' .292 OBP & .559 slug batting 2nd with LH Hosmer's .337 OBP & .447 slug batting 4th??!?!
leads to this least surprising stat ever: It was Reyes’ 13th solo home run. He is averaging one home run every 8.8 at-bats with no one on and one homer every 17.8 at-bats with at least one runner on base. Hmm. Maybe P's are GOING AT HIM b/c there's no one on base? Esp with 4-5 run leads?
Here's another one: Can you imagine a player with this stat line having only 62 RBI: 16 2B, 1 3B, 34 HR
....yup that's Reyes + Renfroe. Even if the average was only 1/2 (0.5) guy on base every HR that would = 51 RBI!
The considerable power we have in the lineup is being wasted because every one is trying to hit for power. RANT

Yes!
While we “do” have on OBP problem let’s not make it worse by having our cleanup hitter hitting 2nd.
I guess they think he’s hitting well “because” he’s in the 2nd spot.
He’s not.
I have a bad feeling that even when Tatis comes back Green is gonna continue to hit La Mole’ in the 2 hole.
Reyes should be hitting 4th or 5th....period.
Fix the issue ahead of him....don’t make it worse by hitting him 2nd.
