Still winning is a good thing... 3-1 start should help the psyche of the team.
AZ next up for 3 games Mon-Wed ... 2-1 would make me happy (3-0 is better) ... Lauer - Lucchesi-Margevicius.

Quote from fenn68 on March 31, 2019, 4:37 pmA story line that keeps giving. Rosenthal and Lin are reporting that the Padres are determined to add a veteran SP (not sure when though). Kuechel and Stroman were the names they toss out.
Add to that, the Padres website, has a Cassavell article suggesting the Padres are looking at the 11 game stretch starting next Saturday while at the same time being concerned about the innings limits for the season on Paddack and Strahm. Maybe a "bullpen day" ... maybe a call-up for a start ... could allow for a skipped start. But clearly implied that we should not expect a smooth 5 man rotation over the next few weeks.
So IF adding either Kuechel or Stroman is being debate ... what are the pluses / minuses
Stroman: good initial start (so healthy) ... making only $7.4MM and carries one more arbitration year (mid-teens likely). Downside ... Toronto has been (and I suspect will continue to) demand a mega prospect return and if they don't get that they just wait until the trade deadline or next winter.
Kuechel: working simulated games and is the type of pitcher that probably does not a lot of reps to get into game speed. Downside ... Boras is his agent and is still holding out for that premium / long term deal plus signing Kuechel before the MLB draft does cost a draft choice.
I will put money (not my money) on Kuechel ... losing the draft pick vs. elite prospects is more palatable .... IF they can come to an agreement with Boras on a 1 year deal greater than the QO. IF I understand the rules ... since he would be signing during the season the Padres could not offer him a QO and he would be returning to the FA market next winter (unencumbered). At some point that has to work for Boras.
Would guess the less than stellar performance by Allen / Quantrill in ST and the innings limited on Paddack / Strahm and the more risky projection for a season of Margevicius ... while exuberant about adding Machado - Tatis - et. al. has kicked the veteran SP option back into play.

Quote from 84padres on March 31, 2019, 4:47 pmso far so good, a little concerned about the offense. I kmow only 4 games but 2 ER in 21 and a third with 22 Ks is prettu impressive. Can't wait to see Strahm tomorrow. Paddock was everything we could have hoped for

Quote from MrPadre19 on March 31, 2019, 4:51 pmIt will be interesting to soo how much of this series was good Padre pitching and how much was bad Giants offense.
I love our defense though.
Gold gloves all around the infield.
