Great to have you back Alex!

Do/did you live in Mexico?

Yes MrPadre, that's me, I was living in Tijuana at the time, I'm in my hometown Ensenada right now, anytime any of you guys want to come down I'll be happy to meet you, maybe I'll invite you some homemade fish tacos, or something like that, now about my Pads, despiste the promising start I still see us finishing with 78 to 82 wins, don't think our bullpen can handle the workload, Lauer and Luchessi are a number 4 at best but have the 1 and 2 spots in the rotation, and the other 3 guys won't pitch past 5 innings in 70% to 80% of their starts.

Aside from internet is there MLB broadcast in Ensenada? Please don't tell me it's the LAD.

The LAD english and spanish, the Padres just spanish, since they switched from the mighty 1090am to 97.3fm, sadly the english signal just gets to Rosarito

As reality starts to set in.....

It's ok, we knew it wouldn't couldn't last too long, this year is still about what it was, let the kids play and see what they got, find out who sticks and who doesn't

Come on you guys!  We're still tied for 1st!  Despite extreme youth/learning curve; esp in SP staff.    3 big reasons for cautious short term (this year) optimism:

1)  Overall hitting/OBP should improve:  Only Myers, Machado & Tatis are helping the cause right now.  Margot (.316 OBP) is OK but needs to Walk WAY more.  He, Myers, & Tatis are combined 4 for 7 in SB in 19 games; would like to see them doing much more there.  Team is WAY too HR dependent right now.  Renfroe & Reyes are providing power/RBI, but hurting the OBP cause.  Production from C, 1B, & 2B has been terrible.

2)  A lot of help is on the Injured list:  Esp bullpen & LH OF bats.

3)  Since Pads will obviously be looking to contend in 2020 & beyond, trading for non-rental assets IS an option no matter how this season is going.  But hanging around & having a shot going into June might open the door to trading for "rental" 2019 only assets also.   I feel extremely strongly that at some point Preller HAS to "consolidate" the 40-man roster by trading quantity for quality.

The 2 main reasons to be dubious are: 1) SP and 2) the schedule.  I think it's likely by halfway through season that it will be blatantly obvious that we don't have a #1 or #2 SP in MLB.   And we obviously haven't faced LAD or really any other strong teams yet.

Given the poor offensive output at 2B and looking at the experiment EP just had at 2B today ... might at some point we see a surprise call-up for 2B (Urias down)?

I referring to Ty France who is hitting well in AAA. He played 2B today but not out of necessity ... EP had Batten at 3B and Pirela DH ... both could have handled 2B based on their backgrounds.

Even if France is not up as a regular 2B .... his bat as a PH and experience at 3B/1B might be a needed offensive boost.

Just a one off that caught my eye. On the 40 man roster so a "easy" move.

I believe France played some 2b at times last year in AA.

We need Urias(and Hosmer for that matter) to get going.

I would like to see Urias play everyday for awhile.

Or at least multiple games in a row.

Not every ballplayer....especially young ones, can perform when not playing regularly.

When do you think was the last time Urias didn’t play every day?

Probably never......
