I would like to see Urias play everyday for awhile.
Or at least multiple games in a row.
Not every ballplayer....especially young ones, can perform when not playing regularly.
When do you think was the last time Urias didn’t play every day?
Probably never......
Would guess the Urias is the subject of some debate in the front office. Clearly a top prospect at 21 that needs to play and develop but how long do they go with him in the ML if he is not hitting? For development, does he really need to work on something in AAA?
Considering the commentary is that they opened the season with Paddack, Tatis, and Margevicius because they were performing the best and gave the Padres the best chance to win now ... without regard to prospect status or control, Urias is not fitting that profile (unless he makes a quick u-turn in his offense).
How to balance the development of one player (Urias) against the rest of the team wanting to win now or against a different (but lesser) prospect getting his ML look (France, Quiroz) or even our old friend Pirela. If the Padres want to reward performance while at the same time nurturing their prospects, they have to be in a bit of a quandary.

re: Dickerson ... he left today's El Paso game early ... how come?
Scrolling through the "plays" by inning, it looks like he got injured on defense @ 1B mid-inning... hope nothing major.
With the way the off days fall: today, 4 games, off, 2 games, off, then road trip beginning 13 in a row; it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see them add a position player at least for the homestand (drop to 7 RP)... seems like enough rest there for pen to be covered? They don't have anyone to recall for a non-injury situation like really short start or extra innings though...

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 18, 2019, 5:51 amSo if we continue to get no production from Second Base what do we do?
Do we send Urias down and bring up Pirela.....or France?
Let one one them play everyday and Kinsler back up the infield?
Give up defense for offense?

Don't think Pads are to that point with Urias... yet. BUT he wouldn't be here (yet) if Cordero hadn't gotten hurt either.
Give Urias the majority of starts for a finite time... through this homestand? through next road trip?
If not showing clear moving in right direction by then, maybe send him down.
I'm not sure who you bring up though. France would be out of position, Pirela makes me cringe a little... what about just platooning Garcia & Kinsler @ 2B, and adding a LH bat. That guy would be mostly bench bat, but 2 valid PH options when needed every game; 1 LH 1 RH. I realize Garcia has no power, but has gotten on base pretty well vs Righties. Austin Allen?

Quote from fenn68 on April 18, 2019, 7:53 amJust my bias but would not like bringing up a legit prospect to sit on the bench and only PH ... e.g Allen behind Hedges and Mejia or Naylor trying to get playing time ahead of Myers, Reyes, and Renfroe.
If they sent Urias down ... might make the move with Quiroz .... LHH 2B who may be well suited for the bench role (or part time starting). Alternatively ... as they started the season with only one bench INF ... add Dickerson (LHH OF) who could be a legit bat first bench / PH option.
Don't want Urias sitting on the bench or in a limited part-time role .. not great for his development .... how long do they wait? Only 20 AB but an ugly slash line of 100/250/150 with a 35% K-rate. (of course, Kinsler's is not any better). For the good of the rest of the team they can't nurse those two along with that level of performance.
Side: Kinsler is another ST vs. regular season caution ... hot in early ST and looking like a good sign then ice cold when the season starts.

He may not have started opening day but he is our Ace right now.

But that creates a 40 man issue.....right?
France and Pirela are on the 40 man.
I agree that if Urias is here he needs to play everyday at least for 7-10 games.
If he hits...there's our answer...if he doesn't,send him to AAA for the season and play Kinsler/Pirela.

Quote from BoosterSD on April 18, 2019, 9:53 amI think the answer at 2B for this year is Garcia, at least for a legit two week period, to see what we have. He is LH so it would help balance out the line up a little. Send Urias back to AAA and forget about the "power" and get back to being the hit/OB guy he needs to be going forward.

Quote from fenn68 on April 18, 2019, 11:31 amAgree that at some point if (when) they need to send Urias down deploying Garcia / Kinsler as the 2B platoon is the most logical move. Pirela back up does then give some flexibility as INF/OF back up with experience and proven on a good day can hit. That leaves all the "prospects" developing with AB in AAA ... which is good. Does not address the LHH bench option but maybe that is over played as a concern on this team.
Not sure their status but Kennedy, Loup, Cordero, Diaz, and Espinosa are all still on the 10 day IL ... potentially one is a 60 day DL option if they needed to add a non-roster player (but have to also consider that at some point they need to make room for players coming off the 60 day).
