Regular Season Discussion

PreviousPage 5 of 25Next

Hard to see Ross (assuming he maintains his current performance) not getting dealt by the trade deadline for a decent prospect.

I guess they could still sign him as a FA after the season ... but not betting on it since he is already 31 and this winter will be his best chance for the maximum FA deal he can expect. So he will be pushing for a multi-year / max dollar deal .... a lot of contenders should like him for immediate 2019-20 help and would pay a premium for that short term return.

Think the Padres would try to sign him but the length of a deal may be the problem. Not sure how far they would go with a 31 year old with injury history (and the injury history of his brother ... genetics?). Don't think the annual salary would be an issue.

Frame of reference ... last winter Alex Cobb (30 with an injury past) signed for 4 years / $57MM (AAV $14.25MM).

Would Ross settle for that deal? Would the Padres offer that deal? Ross' last season would be at age 35.

How's Strahm looking?

I was hoping he'd be a guy that would could come in and lock down a spot in the rotation this year. Obviously he needs to work back into form but surely by mid season he'll be stretched out. Whether or not he's good enough is a different matter hence me asking how he looks so far.

He isn't going to be a starter. They limited him to 1 inning stints in the minors after initially having the idea of potentially starting him. Needs to locate a lot better. His fastball catches a lot of the plate.

I'd also say he doesn't have a lot of dynamics with his offspeed stuff despite the glowing reports on it. May take time, but we're pretty far removed from it at this point.

Hopefully the Robbie Erlin as a starter experiment is over. He has ZERO business being a starter.

I have absolutely no idea why Strahm is in the bigs.  He has no idea where the ball is going and walks way too many.

He looks like he may have some good stuff if he could control it but clearly he can’t right now.  He needs to be sent down to figure it out

He just doesn't need to be used in a high leverage situation. We are so reliant on Hand/Yates/Stammen, need to find someone who can fill some of those innings. Then again, only scoring one run makes it hard to win ballgames.

I guess Andy doesn’t agree with you.😉

Starting against the Duds today.

Actually the SP today is Johnny Wholestaff, Strahm is just the first syllable.
