Regular Season Discussion

Brian Mitchell has 3 K's to 14 BB's.

Yikes!

He looks like a guy with great stuff who just doesn't trust it enough to throw strikes.

Not gonna win too many games with a K/BB ratio like that!

You've gotta wonder how long his leash is. He didn't exactly earn his spot in the rotation on merit and he's certainly not making it easy for us to explain to casual fans why he's sticking around. I don't have a problem with sticking with him for an extended period unless he continues to turn in extremely short starts that tax our bullpen. We can all deal with 5 innings and 4 earned runs, but 3 inning starts are going to kill our relievers.

Yeah that trade is looking horrible considering Headley lost his job less than 2 weeks into the season as well.

Just reported that Dinelson Lamet is done for the year....TJ surgery

Just a reminder that they didn't so much acquire Headley in that trade, as agree to take on $13M to get Mitchell. I don't think there was much, if any, intention for Headley to still be in the organization come opening day. So it's not really accurate to say he "lost his job." He was never intended to be the starting third baseman for the 2018 San Diego Padres.

Separately, agreeing to take on $13M to get Mitchell is not looking like an especially brilliant decision.

Oh I understand.

But if Headley performed we could move him.

Or at least get some production from him.

But if “neither” perform then....well....so far we got nothing.

They obviously saw enough in Mitchell to give up an arm AND take on Headley and his $13 mil.

So far no one else is seeing what they saw.

They didn't give up an arm, they traded Blash for to them.

Great way to follow up the Giants series.  This team is full of garbage right now.  I hope someone can break out and spark this team offensively.

So after getting BOMBED by the Dodgers and I do mean BOMBED.....Perdomo gets sent down to El Paso to "work out the kinks".

I know he has a kink in his neck from watching rockets hit off him last night......he was just bad

Kirby Yates is off the DL and I gotta believe that Robbie Erlin fills the spot in the rotation.....hopefully these guys get a chance to regroup with a off day and come out and compete against the D Backs.....here's hoping Tyson Ross can give them a quality start

Go Pads !!!

Comment from 1090 on the state of baseball:

For the first time in history ... a month of baseball has provided more strikeouts than hits! The three natural outcome plague is just getting worse leading to no action on the base paths or in  the field.

Add that T. Gwynn, Jr. had a stat the other day that the average lapse time between a ball in play is up to about 3.5 minutes (and that likely will  not be a hit in play).

Home Runs up ... scoring the same ... action on the field becomes almost nonexistent.

So, does anyone else think that Hedges is going to see the knife for the elbow besides me? And if/when he does, do we ride out the year with Ellis and Lopez, or does Nichols (who is also a LHH) get his chance in SD this year.

Injuries to the OF, when Renfroe and Myers get healthy, we will have 6 OFs to jostle around. BA wise, Margot seems the weakest at the moment but seems to be coming around. Jank is starting hot, but we have seen him fade in the past, or has he finally figured it out. And if they both have, were do they play? You would think that as Myers comes back, Jank/Margot who stays in CF, Cordero slides back to RF, and Myers becomes the LF, and Szczur becomes the back up. So what happens to Renfroe and the odd man out of Jank/Margot?
