Break up the Padres!  4 in a row!

And so it begins 🙂

Yep......now we play just well enough to move from the 3rd pick to the 7th.

I will gladly give up a few spots in the draft to see the "kids" perform well and win .... Lucchesi, Lauer, Nix, Urias, Reyes, and some new pen options. Would look at it differently if they were winning because of a collection of marginal veterans who have little future with the team.

Noticed that the Padres added Rowan Wick (RHRP) to the 25 and 40 man rosters .... Brewer back to AAA and Richard to the 60 day DL.

Wick was a waiver claim from StL last winter and DFA'd off the 40 man in the spring ... still only 25ish. Sort of a younger version of Stock (also mined from StL) with an upper 90s FB / good spin on curve and with a similar background of a position player converted to pitching by StL. Padres are building a pen with some hard throwers.

Since I doubt many had Rowan Wick penciled into the 40 man roster ... just adds another wrinkle into construction of the winter 40 man for Rule 5 ... already with a lot of quality prospects pushing to bump some established names.

We will see if Preller can swing some deals before the Rule 5 to move rostered players for non-roster players (or 2 for 1 deals) to at least salvage something out of this crunch.

Urias has one k in 21 PAs...he's gonna be great

Alright, nobody has posted about Wil Myers' comments, so here goes.  First, I must say that I am pro-Myers fan in that I think he is an incredible talent that will be a very good ML player for the next few years.  Heck, if he's serious, he can make himself an average 3B.  That said, I see the issues others have with him in terms of [perceived?] lack of hustle at times, lack of intensity and even petulance.

At first, given the last sentence above, I was pissed about his comments.  They smack of all of the traits people like to point out as faults in him.  However, I also see it as two guys just having a "bull session" while playing a game.  I've criticized my boss to coworkers, sometimes when I shouldn't have, but that doesn't mean I'm not trying at work or putting in half effort.  To me, its like saying to my coworker that it sucks to have to work late or on the weekends and "I wish [the boss] planned better so this doesn't happen."  Does that make me lazy or a bad employee?  I dunno.

Look at it this way, I'd rather have this "controversy" than have Robert Osuna or Josh Hader in the 'pen.

For anyone who doesn't know what I am talking about re Myers' comments, see:

From rotoworld.com ...

Franmil Reyes went 1-for-3, extending his National League-leading hit streak to 10 games, in the Padres' loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Reyes pushed his impressive hit streak to 10 games with a two-out single off Diamondbacks starter Robbie Ray in the fifth inning. The Padres offense managed just three hits combined in the shutout loss. The 23-year-old slugger owns the longest active hit streak in the National League. He's hitting .316 (25-for-79) with nine home runs and 15 RBI in 28 games since being recalled from Triple-A El Paso on August 5.

Hunter Renfroe went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts in the Padres' loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Renfroe saw his 11-game hit streak snapped thanks to a brilliant backhanded stop and throw from foul territory by Arizona third baseman Eduardo Escobar on a scorched grounder in the ninth inning. The 26-year-old outfielder's potent power bat has come alive in the second half of the year. He's hitting .272 (40-for-147) with 12 homers and 31 RBI in 39 games since the All-Star break.

Will Leitch at mlb.com thinks Margot is just having a down 2018 and will be good going forward ...

... agree?

I sure hope so ...

From a comment at minorleagueball.com ... Padres also recalled INF Javy Guerra, pitchers Kazuhisa Makita, Colten Brewer and Brad Wieck to the team. That makes 33 players from the 40-man roster currently at the MLBlevel.

Green acknowledged that Tuesday's moves most likely represent the last of the Padres' September callups. The roster currently sits at 33 players

Fun fact

Last night SD relievers Trey Wingenter, Robert Stock, José Castillo and Craig Stammen each struck out every batter they faced. The Padres are the first team in the live-ball era to have 4 different pitchers strike out every batter they faced in a game.
