Regular Season Discussion

PreviousPage 16 of 25Next

Some of you have said you hope you never seen Hedges bat again.

He currently has the highest batting average on the team other than Myers......who at this point can hardly be called a regular.

lol

I realize that is more of an endictment of the rest of the offense but if Hedges can hit .250 with average HR power he is a top 5 NL Catcher with his defense.

Baseball is a crazy game .... Padres have earned the worst record in the NL over the course of the season .... yet in August

2 - 2 (away) vs. the NL Central leaders .... Cubs

2 - 1 (away) vs. the NL Central second place team (and wild card team) .... Milw

2 - 1 (home) vs. the NL East leaders ... Phil

So, 6 - 4 against three NL playoff teams ... can't really explain that except teams / players go hot and cold because ???????

So, Wil looked pretty good last night.  Some of his throws were a bit worrisome going across the diamond, but he seemed to have decent footwork.  He was a little slow on that potential DP.  If he can solidify the position, we could have something.

Crazy stat.....Myers was only 1 assist short of the Padres all time assist record for third basemen last night!

In his debut at the position no less.....

Talk about the ball finding you!

I'm surprised no one's mentioned how well Myers has done defensively at 3b so far.....or maybe not so surprised.

But it is surprising!....:)

I am passed surprised and up to stunned how well he has shown at 3B. Based on what he has shown so far in 3 games .... he is not worse than any of the current alternatives (and potentially a lot better). He has not been given credit in the past for how good an all around athlete he is while most focus on his injuries, Ks, and poor CF play. Myers really seems to like the spot and seems relaxed ... both good signs for this run to continue.

He looks to get a long run in 2018 at 3B and if he continues at this form ... Padres may be focused on deals that improve the corner OF offense rather than 3B.

After his "hot" week offensively and defensively, it seems that much of the media are beginning to tout the resigning of Galvis ... Tatis is not expected to arrive until late 2019. Not sure where the Padres stand on that idea.

Guessing the Padres would but not on a major multi-year deal. Galvis would for a major multi-year deal. That impasse should lead him to FA were the market for SS is likely to be weak (except for some lower division teams who may approach the FA SS the same way the Padres will ... one year, low cost deals).

50/50 chance on his return on a Padre friendly deal ... might boil down to whether Phil signs Machado to play SS. If not, they may return to Galvis after Crawford / Kingery under performed plus Galvis likes Phil.

I like the idea of resigning Galvis to a 1-2 year deal.

I'm not sure why so many seem to think he will get longer term offers?

He didn't this last off season and he is pretty much the same player this year.

How many teams would be willing to sign a guy like Galvis to a 2-5 year deal?

Most already have a SS better or as good.

Why would Freddy Galvis have had multi year offers last offseason? Kind of hard to get a lot of those when you aren't a free agent...
