Padres vs Phillies NL Championship Series Oct 18-25

PreviousPage 7 of 9Next

Well….we did better in the playoffs than any team not named the Phillies or Astros.

Made it to the NLCS……I don’t think even the most optimistic of us “expected” the World Series.

We all hoped….but with no Tatis, and beating the Mets and dodgers,we definitely over achieved.

I’m not giving up completely…..but I am already looking forward to next May when Tatis/Machado/Soto is a real thing in the lineup.

Crismatt isn't on the roster. Manaea was fortunate to only give up 1 in his first inning. Bringing him back for 2 lefties in Marsh and Schwarber was a defensible move. He should have been gone after the Schwarber walk. He definitely should have been gone after the Hoskins HR. Leaving him in after that was inexcusable. That's not just hindsight. Melvin didn't trust him to pitch up until this point, but left him out there to give the game away.

Harper has hit “everyone”.

We can’t just assume if Manaea is pulled there Harper just rolls over for us.

Yes it seems obvious now we should have pulled Manaea….but there’s no way of knowing if things would have been any better.

Garcia and Wilson each gave up HR’s as well.

It was obvious at the time. He went walk, HR, walk in front of Harper after giving up a lot of hard contact and getting picked up by the defense in the previous inning. He hadn't pitched in 3 weeks because he couldn't be trusted. He should of been on an extremely short leash. He coughed up the lead twice and still got left out there to cough up the game. It's inexcusable. There's no reason he should have faced Realmuto let alone Harper. I may not know that it would have worked out any better. I do know I would have liked our chances a whole lot better with literally any of our other pitchers on the mound after the Hoskins homer. If you watched him tonight and down the stretch and really feel differently I don't know what to tell you.

BoMel didn't managed that game well... Manea has the highest road ERA in baseball.. Bad enough Clev gave up 3.. But when the Boyz went up 6-4.. 5th or not.. Suarez needed to come in and give us a 2 inning outing.. facing the teeth of that lineup.. then Wilson 7th.Garcia 8th and Hadder.. Formula has worked all playoffs..Clev and Sean were not part of (winning post season) that formula... not the time to get cute...and it cost us.. probably the most deflating lost we could get..6 runs should have been plenty (Phillies had scored 2 5 and 4 previous 3) to win this game rather routine.... Clev and Sean need to go on IL call up Cristmat and Castillo.. or Groome...

With Yu... Snell and Musgrove we have a chance to win all 3..But tomorrow is not guaranteed so Win today please..

I can almost see it That dream I'm dreaming

But there's a voice inside my head saying

You'll never reach it

Every step I'm taking

Every move I make feels

Lost with no direction

My faith is shaking

But I, I gotta keep trying

Gotta keep my head held high

There's always gonna be another mountain

I'm always gonna wanna make it move

Always gonna be an uphill battle

Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose

Ain't about how fast I get there

Ain't about what's waiting on the other side

It's the climb

With Yu/Snell and No No Joe we have a chance.. KEEP THE FAITH

6 Wins 7 to go..Lets Go Padres!

I guess if any of us were thinking Clevinger or Manaea were candidates to return as the #4 SP in 2023 … time to refocus on adding a #4 SP as a priority.

Personally I think the crushing blow was Clevinger’s performance … being handed a 4 run lead in the top of the first swinging all the momentum to the Padres and putting a lot of pressure on the PHILs … he comes out and gets none of his four batters out (3 hits / walk) and gives up three runs … putting PHIL right back into the game while forcing the use of Martinez in the early innings and probably forcing the Padres go with someone they did not want to use (Manaea) to try to get a multi-inning guy in the 4th.

On the other hand, a clutch effort again by Martinez and adding pressure on the Padres to ensure he remains a Padre with a new contract … and maybe a SP for 2023.

Not having a 4th SP in the end killed us yesterday... even Zach Davies who I wanted at the deadline and would have cost us next to nothing (maybe a spec like Ornelas) would have been key...

I think FA/Trades/resignings.resigning.. need to focus on SP like Senga or better.. and SP like Davies or Eflin .  Martinez/Groome can be 6th SP all yr with Groome or Martinez doing it all like 2022.. that role kind of sets you up GREAT for post season.. and having a lefty /righty duo in it could be next step brilliant

I like Jake at 4th vs RHP and Drury 5th ..with them reversing vs lefties.. both are great RBI guys.. BUT I think we need (besides Drury) one more impact bat

Melvin is single handedly giving this game to Philly.

Clevinger and Manaea in the same game??? And Sean is still in there walking batters.....unbelievable.

Who you gonna get to give us 6 innings?

Yes they both suck….who else we got?

Have to play again tomorrow….and hopefully Monday with no days off.

This whole “delayed season/take away playoff off days” BS has killed us.

With a rested bullpen why not start Morejon, Wilson and Johnson to start. If we are getting killed then bring in the gas cans to save the rest.

Who you going to pitch?

Who’s gonna pitch tomorrow after Yu?

We could have been looking at 3 more games with zero off days.

We had to hope we could get 4-5 out of Clev/Manaea.

Blame AJ if anyone….you can’t play 7 playoff games in 8 days with 3 starters.

We all loved the Manaea move when it was made. We can't blame AJ for him falling off a cliff.
