Actually, thinking about it for a minute, the whole reason Perdomo might be getting the start is to get "burned" (max usage) & be optioned down tomorrrow to give Pads an extra arm for rest of the series...

Since Quantrill has only been in 2 games (5.2 innings) and Perdomo only 3 games (5.0 innings) out of the Padre's 16 ... might be a toss up depending on today's performance. Might hinge on whether they prefer a long man (Quantrill) or a short man (Perdomo) who may be more suited to middle relief.
On the other hand ... maybe both? Short drive to / from LA so little issue with making the switch or flying in fear of COVID. Actually there are five players on the traveling taxi squad ... if there are a couple of pitchers that they may want ... no travel. Not sure if I want (NOW) any of the taxi squad guys but?

A clue toward future moves ... today’s line up has:
Cronenworth at 2B
Pham at DH
Profar in LF ... think first for 2019.
Padres originally viewed Profar in a super utility role ... with the emergence of Cronenworth for 2B ... maybe this is his future.
Also, when Mateo returns ... puts Olivares more at risk of being optioned.

Perdomo looked a bit shaky but Hosmer could've helped by catching the ball that went off his glove and stepped on 1st for the double play. I know it's early but Cronenworth looks good everywhere they put him, what a nice play in the 2nd inning. Then a real nice AB to lead off 2nd, 2 strikes right up the middle for a single.

Agree.
Cronenworth has shown enough for me to think ... worst case ... he will have a long career as an LHH INF reserve to cover SS/2B/3B/1B. If he can hit at all over the long term he should be the Padres 2B for a number of years. He seems to have some real baseball smarts and instincts along with the athletic ability to play excellent defense.
Let us hope his bat continues to play in the ML.

Our hitters are really frustrating me tonight!
May is giving them a first pitch fastball right down the middle and they’re just watching it....then they are swinging at crap!
Manny came up with runners on and I’m like ‘swing at the first pitch”
Nope!
Hosmer just did the same thing but also just got a hit to drive in the lead run so...

What is up with mlb.com? They orgasm all over themselves over May both times he has pitched against the Padres this year. Both times he has been outpitched by the Padres. Last time Lamet had a 5 inning no-hitter against the Dodgers but all anyone heard or saw from that game was May striking out Machado with a 99mph sinker!

What is the deal with Profar?
He isn’t hitting but they keep finding ways to get him into the lineup?
Thats twice now he’s been thrown out trying to steal to end an inning as well.
I’d rather see Olivares.
IMO Profar has got to go.

#3 hitter Machado ... double play
#4 hitter Pham ... strikeout
are not the #3 and #4 hitters your clutch hitters that should be driving in those important runs?

In his defense Machado scalded that ball.
That’s one reason I haven’t been that worried about him because he has been hitting the ball really hard....just with bad luck.
His BABIP is really low.
