Seems like they must be waiting until the last minute to make a call on Drury for today.

Drury activated and will DH.

Rosario was optioned.

Combining this and line up positions being discussed in another thread, with a RHSP on the mound tonight, I would change it up a bit.

1. Profar, 2. Crone, 3. Machado, 4. Soto, 5. Myers, 6. Bell, 7. Grisham, 8. Nola, 9. Kim.

I agree we should mix it up but I still like Soto ahead of Manny.

Soto still walks more than anyone in MLB and a 2 run shot is twice as good as a solo shot.

On the other hand with the Padres OBP for Soto (.385) is not that much better than Cronenworth (.338) or Profar (.333) but when you consider SLG you have Soto (.330) vs Cronenworth (.397) or Profar (.393).

Are the Padres better of with a Cronenworth / Profar getting on base with some doubles / triples allowing Machado to drive them in with singles? Relying a Machado 2 run HR may not be the best strategy.

I don’t know if Machado has an issue moving off the #3 slot (he does seem to get his way) or whether Machado would get better pitches if Soto was hitting behind him.

At times … especially with the current lack of offense … would consider Profar - Cronenworth - Machado - Soto (might force him to hit not walk) - Bell  - Myers - Kim - Alfaro / Nola - Grisham / Azocar.

I didn’t say I wanted Soto ahead of Profar and Crone….just Machado.

Profar

Crone

Soto

Machado

Apparently getting two runners on base is our cryptonite.

Well…scoring runs in general is I guess.

Soto just got a crushable pitch and once again topped it into a weak ground ball.

Something is most definitely wrong here.

This team has zero life or enthusiasm.

Forget Tatis’s bat….we need his personality and attitude and style of play.

Losing him to injury was bad…but not getting him back when he got healthy was much worse.

I think it’s still affecting this team in many ways.

It’s the 8th inning and we just got our word hit.

It’s pretty bad when we’re excited for an infield hit….

Drury only one hitting today.... this is so bad is Funny..

Agree on Tatis with him in the lineup we would be scoring 6 a game

This team is unwatchable right now.

Melvin is such a disappointment.

This hitting coach SUCKS

Saw the note that in the past two seasons four different AZ pitchers made their debut against the Padres and pitched 6+ shutout innings … has not happened since the expansion era began (1961). Maybe we should add the R&D (analytics) department to the problem areas. Did they roll out video of these pitchers to the hitters to view? Analytics of their pitch sequences?

They have been the target of some other criticism for some time … apparently one of the smaller analytic’s departments in MLB and no idea what they focus on (and what they don’t). I know Melvin made the comment that he gets “different” input than he got in OAK (who has a major analytical force).

Manager - Pitching Coach - Analytical Department are easy targets (sort of the “usual” suspects) … problem is that the eventual replacements are never better. Maybe we should just focus on the players who have histories of some level of success and are under preforming. Maybe the problem is within the players who as professional hitters should be able to work through this.
