Drey Jameson will be making his 1st  MLB appearance and I'm already dreading it . We seem to make pitchers look great in their initial start .

Combining this and line up positions being discussed in another thread, with a RHSP on the mound tonight, I would change it up a bit.

1. Profar, 2. Crone, 3. Machado, 4. Soto, 5. Myers, 6. Bell, 7. Grisham, 8. Nola, 9. Kim.

The stage is set.. the story about to be written.. All hands and BATS on deck.. Time to step on throats and kick some ass.. only 19 left.. Need W's ...

Well the good news is the Jameson debut means we won't see Kelly. Nelson is off to a strong start to his career. He shutdown the Dodgers in his second start. Hopefully we have better luck with him this time. Gallen has been unbelievable lately. The pitching matchups could be tough. At least we get Bumgarner this time. Hopefully Manaea is rejuvenated. It would be nice if Drury came back ready to rock too.

I agree we should mix it up but I still like Soto ahead of Manny.

Soto still walks more than anyone in MLB and a 2 run shot is twice as good as a solo shot.

On the other hand with the Padres OBP for Soto (.385) is not that much better than Cronenworth (.338) or Profar (.333) but when you consider SLG you have Soto (.330) vs Cronenworth (.397) or Profar (.393).

Are the Padres better of with a Cronenworth / Profar getting on base with some doubles / triples allowing Machado to drive them in with singles? Relying a Machado 2 run HR may not be the best strategy.

I don’t know if Machado has an issue moving off the #3 slot (he does seem to get his way) or whether Machado would get better pitches if Soto was hitting behind him.

At times … especially with the current lack of offense … would consider Profar - Cronenworth - Machado - Soto (might force him to hit not walk) - Bell  - Myers - Kim - Alfaro / Nola - Grisham / Azocar.

Hit Soto in the 4 spot for the weekend, in AZ (hitters park) and see if it sparks his bat.

IF he continues to look for the walk, and not hit, then maybe the best option would be to lead off with Soto. He does have the highest OBP in the line up. So maybe he leads off, then go Crone, Machado, Bell, Drury, Myers down the line.

With Soto on base via the walk, or single, maybe Crone and Machado see more fast balls and better pitches to hit.

Brandon Drury is here. So that’s a good sign. He will take batting practice.

Per Acee

Seems like they must be waiting until the last minute to make a call on Drury for today.
