Padres vs Dbacks

Should add that since 2016 for pitchers with more than 250 AWAY innings .... Davies ranks #10 in AWAY ERA ... right up there with some of the big names in MLB.

Except for 2018 when he had injury issues .... 2016, 2017, 2019 had him making a full slate of starts.

Have to think that a line-up that struggles with 6 innings of Davies throwing sub-90 has to have more difficulties trying to adjust to high 90s RP with the likes of Guerra, Pagan, et al for the last 3 innings.

Not ready to give the CY Young to Davies ... or am I? 🤔

I would love to see Cronenworth at 2nd base, he is a SS by trade and should be a plus defender at 2nd. I like Profar but his results aren't there and we need every win possible, no time to wait for him to turn it around. Other than health reasons we should try and start our 4 best starters against the teams we are needing to beat to make the playoffs such as AZ. I know it's not feasible in real life but could be a factor in who starts against who if there are days off and could skip 5th starter against "weaker" teams. Would rather see Paddock and Lamet against AZ then to possibly lose 2-1 against LA. I know that it's not likely that it happens though.

It seems Profar is a Tingler guy and despite his low BA, he really hasn't been awful - he's typically a tough out, making the pitcher work, and has had some bad luck where he's hit the ball.  If Hosmer is ready to continue his hot start today and in the future, then Cronenworth will probably split time at 2b with Profar and be used to give Machado and Tatis (and even Hosmer) a day off in the field.  Don't think they'll use him in the OF, although they probably could, but could show up as a DH if they wanted to get both he and Profar in the line-up at the same time.  Don't see Mateo coming up yet.  Still looking for Almonte to go down today, especially after Olivares' big fly yesterday.

Yes!  Got to keep running out our 4 best starters until it becomes evident that longer rest is needed between starts, i.e., they start wearing down, or for some reason they become ineffective.  Got to get our pitchers to be more efficient, so they can go deeper in the games - much prefer that rather than the K's - quick groundouts and popups after 3-4 pitches are okay with me.  Keep those men off the base, especially by issuing walks after the early count was 0-2 or 1-2.  Bullpen showing signs of life, but same issue - no walks, please!

Actually, you will...  they are the announced SP's today/tomorrow.  I've come around to the idea in this short season, but only grudgingly.  Does give us a really good chance of wining this series with AZ though, and hopefully burying them a little more.

Part of me loves the idea of starting Patino vs. LAD, but I worry that if he gets shelled it undermines his confidence.  Just not sure about the timing, but really if you stand back & look at it, he or Cal is likely to give a better chance of winning the game than Joey would have...

To add to Fenn's analysis, Lauer looked very good against the Cubs in Chicago, but got blasted by the Reds in Milwaukee yesterday.  I hope Lauer has success with the Brewers but I  agree that Davies is a plus-up despite his lack of velocity - a guy that seems to know what he's doing out there and under control no matter if there are runners on base.  Like his calmness under pressure.

SS Tatis

CF Grisham (L)

3B Machado

LF Pham

1B Hosmer (L)

RF Myers

2B Cronenworth (L)

C    Hedges

DH Garcia (L)

Best L / R picket fence they could do I guess.

Tatis is two Leadoff home runs away from the Padre record.

He has just now reached 100 games played......😳😳

So the Padres have been around for 50 years and a team record could be broken in less than one season of games.

Grisham really struggling of late........I would sit him tomorrow against MadBum for Olivares.

I think we all want the Padres and Chris Paddack to do so well but we sometimes forget that baseball is a game that can turn on any pitch and Paddack is a young guy.....he will learn and continue to grow and improve, The same thing for Lamet, Patino, Gore, Davies, Richard and so on.

Went from up 1-0 to down 3-1 in a blink of an eye....The bats have to get moving because no lead is safe and not just the Padres....it's Baseball

Personally I like watching Paddack pitch....in, out, up and down..fastball, change up, curveball and a mini slider....he is a pitcher when it seems like so many other guys are "throwers" and there is a difference for sure.

I just wish we could see the game in person....TV is fine but Garlic Fries and Cardiff Crack Nachos sure make it a fun Saturday Night at Petco 🙂

I hate when Managers over think the righty/lefty thing as Tingler just did there.

Profar has ONE hit all season yet he pinch hits him for Cronenworth just because a lefties on the mound.

Profar never even swings the bat.

Cronenworth has as many hits off of lefties as Profar has all season....I hate that crap!
