Padres vs Dbacks

Yeh, as I understand the IL is 10 days but remember the start can be post-dated which might obscure the time actually off the team plus the concussion list is, I think, only 7 days.

Also, the players that go on the COVID IL return when they get the two negative test which could be less than 10 days.

Not sure that “gaming” the pitching staff in a short season will have the desired result. May make the manager have a different usage strategy on the pitchers. Have to be more carefully of over-work.

Looks like we've stacked the lefties at the bottom of this line-up against Weaver and we need just one, preferably two, to get on at least once to roll over to the top of the line-up.  At the top, need Machado and Pham to drive in those baserunners - which both have failed to do consistently this year.  If this happens and Davies pitches like he can, I like our chances.  Go Padres!

SEVEN leadoff home runs for Tatis already and he still hasn’t played in 100 games!

😳

Davies really has the change up working tonight!

Please, please score some more runs now guys! It's hard to believe but with this current bullpen a 3 run lead with 3 innings to go is nowhere near safe!

Very well pitched game and we needed it because got nothing, again, from Machado and Pham.  With Hosmer expected to come back tomorrow, I'd move Cronenworth to 3rd and give Machado either a day off or put him at DH.  Don't know how much of the game Mejia actually called, but he seemed to be in control of all our pitchers except Yates, who apparently needs his closer catcher Hedges to be confident in his stuff.

My guess is that Almonte goes down or DFA'd tomorrow; don't think he's going to be claimed by anyone.  Probably see Hedges catch Paddack tomorrow, so my guess is they slide Cronenworth behind Myers in the 7th spot and keep Profar at 2B, batting 9th.  Both Machado and Pham are taking too many good pitches and getting way behind in their counts - they've looked very bad during the entire Dodger series and today; got to be more aggressive early.   Like our chances against Kelly tomorrow, but we'll need strong performances from some of the other members of the pen because they all can't repeat tomorrow.  Go Padres!

That was a nice win, I hope Padack brings it tomorrow

One correction - Hedges actually came in the 8th to catch Pagan; concept still the same, a catcher closer!   Did want to give a kudo to Myers, who did a great job cutting off the ball that could have been a double.  With Hosmer back tomorrow, interesting where in the line-up they would bat Cronenworth.  My guess is he hits behind Myers in the 7th slot, before Hedges.

I think they have a minor league option to use on Almonte so avoids exposing him to being claimed.

Since Hosmer may be a bit “weakened” by the effects of gastritis ... might we see him at DH for a few games?

This is what I hope we got when we traded for Davies (I thought he was a hidden steal in that MILW trade).

He is the Rodney Dangerfield of ML SP ... gets no respect. 6’ / 180 lbs (undersized), looks like he should be still pitching in HS, sub-90s FB, low K%, 6 inning pitcher  ... the kind of guy the analytic folks ignore. Then look at this career production AWAY from Miller Park (a hitter’s heaven):

52 starts / 292 innings (large sample size) .... 3.09 ERA / 1.24 WHIP.

IF he retains that AWAY performance and gets similar HOME production from moving from MILLER to a pitcher’s park in PETCO ... he becomes a key cog in the rotation.

I don't know why exactly but Davies reminds me of a pitcher we had for 3 years that was just a really solid starting pitcher

Gets his SO, gives you 6 innings all the time, always answers the bell, 150 to 200 innings pitched a year, the era and whip are almost spot on

Ian Kennedy

I would be very happy with that type of consistency

He threw a great game last night against a tough hitting Arizona team
