Padres vs. D-Backs

A number of reports suggested that Green and Myers were ... let's say ... not on the same page. Then add my thought for the past few seasons ... place Myers in one position (OF) in the field and one spot in the batting order and let him play. Tingler seems to be doing that with RF and 6th in the line-up (note not the middle of the line-up pressure).
Always thought the Padres abused their key young asset but forcing him to bounce all over the field / batting order just because he was athletic and they wanted the next Ben Zobrist. Some players just don't fit that role ... not really that common to do that successfully. Myers (and most players) benefit of simplifying the game with focus on limited variables / one role.
Hopefully can sustain the improvement.
Really good observation! Countless posts on these boards in the past blasted Bud Black then Andy Green for constantly manipulating Pads lineups with holes all over the place trying to plug the leaks. Same defensively (more Preller's fault) with Myers who gets "punished" for being athletic enough to play different positions.
Think he needs exactly this: stay put on field & lineup, NOT be the focus of attention (Thanks Fernando), and have a good supporting cast so he's another threat in lineup, not "the" threat in the lineup.
Wil's not going to stop K'ing or hit .320, but the ability to be better than he has as a Padre so far remains... hopefully being part of a better, more stable team continues to help him tap into that.

Padres are currently 29th out of 30 teams in OPS ... slash line 090/129/194 ... that is ugly.
Seems the Padres are comfortable with Torrens defense ... so the open question his the hitting but the current Padre threshold is not that difficult to surpass.
Outside chance of a trade for a catcher ... but at a loss of any team wanting to deal a catcher of any quality unless is is for a major return piece ... probably way over value.
======
Agree that it's time by the next homestand or even sooner. Hate burning both Torrens & Mejia's last options, but don't see the alternative. In a regular season, I'd give Mejia more time, and more games starting back to back as C or DH to try to get it going, but simply can't afford to do it in a 60 game season with 38 left.
Know Hedges is going to be league worst in offense for position; the other guy has to make up some of that difference. Torrens' defense probably > Mejia's (though most accounts incl my eyes say he's improved there), and can't really do any worse offensively. Give him 6-7 starts in 10 games to see if he is a noticeable offensive improvement and/or if the AB's at alternate site can help Mejia get untracked.

Quote from fenn68 on August 16, 2020, 1:15 pmGlad they finally split up Machado and Pham ... having two under performing offensive players back to back at #3 and #4 is sub-optimal ... really did not understand the experiment with them as #1 and #2.
Maybe with both getting surround by current better hitters they will get them some better pitches to hit. ... and hopefully hit them.

Quote from MrPadre19 on August 16, 2020, 2:21 pmWhen are we going to score some meaningful runs again?
It’s been too many games.
We either score early and can’t hold the lead or score too few late, and lose anyway.

Should be bases loaded with Tatis up...instead Manny swings and misses on ball four.
Still hitless though five. This is getting ridiculous......

Quote from fenn68 on August 16, 2020, 3:23 pmTwo bunt calls ... liked the calls ... did not like the execution.
1. Fast runner on 3rd in Cronenworth ... poor hitter especially against a big FB in Hedges (but usually a good bunter). Safety squeeze for that next run made sense BUT Hedges did not make a good bunt (direct to pitcher) and Cronenworth did not read it which he should have on a “safety”.
2. Mateo now up with only one out and runners on 1st and 2nd ... but Mateo is not much of a hitter but has great speed so a good bunt could get him on and load the bases .... worse case runners on 2nd and 3rd for Grisham. Poor bunt ... Mateo out.

A real nice start for Richards 2 runs in 7 innings is all we can ask of any starter
Pagan in 8th Pomeranz to close ?

LOL
You must have been standing next to me when they announced Stammen was warming up.....That was enough to make me leave the room for a few minutes and take a breath 🙂
It would be a waste of a good professional effort by Richards if Stammen gave this lead up....shame on both of us for even thinking Stammen would cough it up 😉
