PADRES VS. ASTROS

I’m thinking Hill is going to have to assume a larger roll.

We can’t afford to use him only in the modified  loogy roll any longer.

He’s been effective and needs to be able to go 2 innings if necessary from here on out.

He has done some 2 inning stints for KC (not many and nothing longer) .... so has some history. Should see him doing a full inning if that is what the situation dictates.

Remarkable game that felt about 15 hours long including fast forwarding through innings breaks!

Player of game was definitely Javy Guerra.  Runner up probably Manny, but also props to Garrett Richards to SOMEHOW limiting Houston to only 1 run through 2 tough bases loaded innings.

I also LOVED seeing some actual "non HR" baseball!  Sacrifice fly... gasp!  Sacrifice bunt... gasp!  REALLY nice to see Pads book 4 runs with no HR.

But the bullpen is utterly unsustainable.  If that game were replayed 9 more times, Houston wins 8 or 9; they blow it open in 1st/2nd inning, one of the 2 balls to warning track off Pagan goes over, etc...

Preller HAS to make a move for RP.... see Trade thread.

  1. Trent Grisham (L) CF
  2. Fernando Tatis Jr. (R) SS
  3. Manny Machado (R) DH
  4. Eric Hosmer (L) 1B
  5. Ty France (R) 3B
  6. Wil Myers (R) RF
  7. Jake Cronenworth (L) 2B
  8. Jurickson Profar (S) LF
  9. Luis Torrens (R) C

The Astros’ alternate training site in Corpus Christi was recently shut down due to a positive COVID-19 test, GM James Click told reporters (including MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart and the Houston Chronicle’s Chandler Rome).  “As the result of a single positive test, we have shut down the facility out of an abundance of caution while we go through the Major League Baseball-managed contact tracing and testing protocols,” Astros GM James Click said.

For now, the issue seems restricted to that lone positive result.  Contact tracing efforts didn’t reveal any link between the person who tested positive and anyone on either the Astros’ active roster or traveling party, so “based on the protocols, the big league team is currently unaffected,” Click said.

Padres dodging a bullet on this one ... don't want to consider the ramifications if an Astro here is SD was linked.

Not sure how much this puts the Astros in limbo if they have a need to modify the 28 (plus traveling squad) ... impact of the "wrong" injury not covered by the traveling squad.

I hope it is true that we have dodged the bullet, although the bullpen could have used a couple of days off before the break on Monday.  However, we seem to have a little momentum, irrespective of pen fatigue/availability, so let's play on!

Surprised that Naylor is not in the lineup but not surprised that Manny needs a blow from 3b.  With Torrens at C and France at 3b, I don't think this is our strongest defensive team, so I could see the point of not putting another relatively weak defender in LF.  France has been hot lately and I hope Davies can continue his strong performance so far this year.  We'll see if Bielak is that good or has just been fortunate; need to be patient at the plate.  We were fortunate last night to get the win.  Go Padres!

Davies isn’t going to go deep in this game to help the Pen if he can’t throw strikes!

Am I the only one wanting Cronenworth higher in the lineup especially against a RH pitcher?

He may not have the power potential as France and Myers but I’d like to see him getting that extra AB late in the game over those guys.

Bielak getting whiplash.

I am unable to watch the game. Was Tatis hit intentionally?

Start a new streak Jake !!!
