Padres @ Brewers April 15-17
Quote from fenn68 on April 16, 2024, 11:48 amApparently Cronenworth "tweeted" his calf running to 1B in the 8th yesterday (Sullivan went to 1st in the 9th).
Unknown if playing today ... but Miley is pitching and is a tough LHP ... who covers if Croney is held out? Rosario as a RHH and an INF. Profar to 1B with Azocar in LF?

My guess would be Profar at 1B, Azocar in LF, and Rosario gets 3B tonight.

Yes!
https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rossjo01.shtml
June 6, 2011: Drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 1st round (25th pick) of the 2011 amateur draft. Player signed August 15, 2011.
December 19, 2014: Traded as part of a 3-team trade by the San Diego Padres with a player to be named later to the Washington Nationals. The San Diego Padres sent Jake Bauers, René Rivera and Burch Smith to the Tampa Bay Rays. The Tampa Bay Rays sent José Castillo, Ryan Hanigan, Wil Myers and Gerardo Reyes to the San Diego Padres. The Washington Nationals sent Travis Ott (minors) and Steven Souza Jr. to the Tampa Bay Rays. The San Diego Padres sent Trea Turner (June 14, 2015) to the Washington Nationals to complete the trade.
So Preller came in and immediately traded all our previous #1's? Ross, Turner, Fried....and for what??? In the end, not much. Bummer.
It was a bummer, indeed, but we can't ignore the fact that it was the start of making the Padres relevant again, at least througout the local community and flr the first time the baseball world spotted the Padres

You hit it correctly ... Profar will bat #3 .... Rosario #8 ... Azocar #9 others just move up a slot to replace Profar.
As a bonus move ... Sullivan optioned to EP / Batten called up. Needed more versatility on the bench if Croney is out for a few games and Azocar is filling in LF.

Quote from Randy Manese on April 16, 2024, 3:50 pmBatten coming up does give the Padres more bench versatility but there could be another reason he was chosen over others in EP. This might be the last time we see Batten in a Padres uniform, majors or minors, after being drafted in 2017. Hopefully Croney's injury won't keep him out very long so, Batten is really just a placeholder for Solano, who might not need even a week to get ready for the majors; when that happens Batten will be DFA'd or released. Bringing him up one final time is a nice reward for an organizational guy who is in his 6th stint at El Paso.

There is an open slot on the 40 man so they can add Solano and option Batten … which is likely the near term plan.
Also, in the near term if needed when the 40 man is filled … could put one of Marcano, Patino, or Otto on the 60 day IL.

Quote from Alex Tamayo on April 16, 2024, 10:20 pmAwesome win today, I noticed that the brewers are not drawing a lot of people, If I remember correctly that place is always packed, or at least 75 to 80 %, any reason that you guys might know? Wheater? Lack of entusiasm? Lack of dairy products at the ballpark?

Noticed that too. Guessing it is a combo of weather and kids still in school … that is always an issue in the upper Midwest, east. Given how the Padres have drawn at home over the past few seasons … seeing empty seats always looks bad.
Yesterday was announced at only 20,000 … but checked and MILW is still about #17 in home attendance (about 26000 per game) down for past season averages of about 30,000-32,000 and around #15 in MLB.
I would add that I suspect a bit of the enthusiasm for the team has faded with some big stars (Burnes, Woodruff, et al) gone / not playing … losing Council as manager (adding Murphy), … ownership moving players due to budget (a very low budget) … and at one point ownership suggesting the team move unless they get a new ballpark.
Roll all that together in April … and lower attendance follows even a team that is winning.

Quote from fenn68 on April 17, 2024, 3:24 amCease was effective again last night … one run in six innings and Shildt let him go 110 pitches. Does seem as though Shildt likes to run his starters out deep into games even if the pitch count is high … did the same with Musgrove on Monday.
SP probably like that … plus it really helps set up the bullpen sequencing lessening the burn out factor. Yesterday, Padres were able to navigate the pen with only one higher leverage arm being used (Matsui) setting up a stronger pen for today with an off day Thursday.
So far, Shildt is been handling the pitching staff well and they are coming around … both SP and RP.
